I thought that was Peppermint Patty and I was confused for a different reason.

There’s going to be a Pokemon show at the Severance building. I’d be tempted to go if I weren’t going to be out of town for Spring Break.

Ending was a disgrace, all we have now are the memes.

Hey I meant to reply to this earlier but “the numbers = Gemma” was very definitely planned in Season 1. Or at least, the idea that the numbers were brain activity was strongly hinted at in Season 1 (see for example this theory from circa three years ago which is not correct in all its particulars but contains many correct elements). We also know that the idea that Gemma was alive and inside Lumon was present very early in show planning, because the creator has made mention of workshopping different ideas of what character she could be and under what circumstances she might be introduced, so this seems like a core idea that underpins the fine details of the plotting. It seems very unlikely that both these ideas were present but the writers hadn’t yet decided they were connected (Irving’s visions of the elevator to the “Testing Floor” also being a prominent element in S1). As for whether this idea is “dumb”, I can only say I disagree. It seems fine to me?

I do agree that the goats were probably just a surrealist detail that they decided to flesh out because people liked them, and I agree they should just have left that alone and not come back to it. It occupies very little screen time in S2 though so I don’t really care. It’s also possible that we are wrong and they have actually been part of the plan from the word go.

Stuff like the goats, and the bizarre formality/ritual/pomp/circumstance of the Lumon experience (marching band, waffle parties etc), are probably just gonna be explained away in the end by the fact that it’s a bizarre religious cult at its core. I’d be surprised if we get anything better than that.

As for the soft sci-fi aspect of things like the numbers being brain stuff, I don’t remotely see an issue with it, it seems to fit in fine for this particular show. For those complaining that it’s stupid, I’d be curious to see what people would think was an acceptable or satisfying explanation.

Numbers being brain stuff is fine. There are so many issues without even getting to the sci-fi portion of things. For example:

it would have been better to leave it unexplained and instead answer the real questions (e.g. WHAT THE FUCK IS IRV DOING)

It’s not just that “Gemma is the numbers” is dumb

If cold harbor completion is going to go down in history

And mark S is going to be remembered for ages

Mark S did 25 puzzles in his two years there

What the fuck were the other 3 members of the team doing. We were told Dylan was the fast employee and got all the waffles

What is Dylan working on. Also Gemma? Some other person.

The explanation given for the numbers is fine but it makes no sense to the rest of the plot

What makes sense is in s1 the numbers were nothing and it was a black mirror / office space crossover commenting on the absurdity of spending your entire life clicking little numbers and putting them in the right spot (excel)

And then they needed content for season two so let’s make the numbers Gemma and make mark S super important

Again it’s not the worst show I just wanted it to be one of THOSE shows

Like when you watch Dexter original sin and something really stupid happens I don’t care I just laugh and say omg who thought of this plot it’s so dumb. Because that’s what Dexter mostly was.

Just sucks that this show isn’t hitting that epic tier because it has that potential with this cool premise

I think this is ultimately one of those shows that should have just done one season and ended it. I mean, I’m going to keep watching regardless, but it’s no longer a true GOAT contender

Yeah, this is where I’m at too. Despite all the shats I’m firing, I still think that it’s a very good show and highly entertaining. It could have been even better, and I don’t think it would have been that hard as they had a good foundation in place. That’s a shame.

With all due respect, I think this is horseshit. They do this, and I think that you, I, and 90% of the fanbase rags on them mercilessly with “herp derp JJ Abrams must be secretly writing this” type comments after the show ends with no closure or explanation of such a huge thing.
