SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

True.

I just bumped into a neighbour/friend in his 80s outside and offered to get some groceries for him and his wife when we next go to the supermarket they like on Friday. He politely declined lol.

I walked through Redondo Pier yesterday night - a few places still open for take out. Some of the souvenir shops still open for some reason. And lots of people fishing off the pier.

Thank god the Fun Factory was closed. I was so afraid that somehow slipped through the cracks and was still open with kids running everywhere.

I think I’ll save it for when I’m all in during a $5 SNG thank you

This was the move a few weeks ago.

UK stated move all olds and those with underlying conditions to the Scotland and isolate.

Let the young ones have a party in Kent.

Too late for that strategy now though

US move all olds to Florida. No one gets in our out. Rest of country resumes normal life.

That’s a lot of coastline to patrol though. Hmmm.

It’d be better for the world if the elderly population were cut down a bit.

I know that sounds horrible but it is objectively true. Hell, it feels horrible that I thought of that.

I’m a bit confused by how the Czech government is counting new daily cases. When I went to sleep, they had 51 new cases announced. I wake up that and that number changed to 67 for some reason. I suppose they got more new cases from 6 PM - 11:59 PM and added them to the daily total. Otherwise, I have no idea.

Anyway, they announced 72 new cases today (30 this morning, 42 tonight). However, testing capabilities continue to rise every day. So it’s not unexpected to see an increase in new cases. The real positive is the percentage increase has been trending down since the quarantine started on the 16th. Went from +57% on the 15th, +29% on the 16th, +15% on the 17th to +16% today.

It’s infuriating to see people still not separating themselves from others in America. They want to stop this from spreading but expect everybody else to do it for them. Goes to show that there are way too many oversized children disguised as adults in America. Quarantine, social distancing, masks, all that shit is effective if done early enough.

Bill Gates’ point about China seems solid to me. The models all seem to show that millions and millions should be dying there, so the numbers being as low as they are certainly points to the response being extremely effective.

My big worry continues to be that Americans are just too selfish and stupid to take serious measures, and we’ll end up half assing it which won’t save enough lives and will superfuck the economy. Lol anecdotes and all, but I know a ton of lower info people who aren’t isolating and give no shits about possibly infecting others. We’ve seen lots of examples of this reported itt too. Most of us are in a highly educated bubble where people are taking it seriously… not so sure that is happening elsewhere.

I think that people throw the word “hero” around too casually these days, and I’m not usually one to toot my own horn, but I’m just going share that I have made it almost all the way to the end of my third WFH day will succumbing to a growing urgency to crack a beer. I have even managed to get in a couple of hours of work around making posts to UP.

QED

People thinking millions can’t die is part of the America #1 Exceptionalism mindset of our society.

Human history is full of pandemics. It’s nature’s way of culling the population. Shit, it happened 100 years ago. It’s happening now and it will happen again.

Yea, it’s jarring to accept but nature doesn’t care.

How will Florida man and woman react to the influx of black people?

So I’m at my office performing some essential functions. Have my door closed. Only five other people here anyway. Tried turning the AC off but it started to get really warm and stuffy in here. Thoughts on whether I should be concerned with the air being circulated? I’ve only been wearing my mask when I leave my individual office.

One big learning I have had from this is why pandemics decimated societies in the past. Look at how badly a big chunk of the population is handling this despite having direct lines of communication to authorities and up to the second updates on their hand held devices. Imagine how the rapid and fatal spread of a disease must have rampaged a society where all you would know about it is maybe something that you heard from the next village over or something like that.

China seems to be the only country that has reached the saturation point and their numbers will start going down. Perhaps I’m interpreting the data incorrectly, but I think they did a pretty good fucking job. It was much easier for them with an authoritarian regime and an obedient population

The rest of the world has all its work ahead of them and I’m guessing China will be one of the least affected countries when the smoke clears. I still say the US will have one of the worst outcomes of anyone. We gave this thing a 2 1/2 month head start and as recently as a couple days ago throngs of people were crowded in airports, partying, etc. The damage has already been done if not yet realized. It will continue to spread exponentially here until our number of cases and deaths dwarf those of any other country. We seem to have taken some prudent steps yesterday, but I fear it’s too little too late

I’m home now after a few hours of nothing, well 1 job in 2 hours

Radio money got cut down to £100 from £150 and I expect it for £50/0 next week as there’s no jobs at night now, I guess I’m moving to day shift :unamused:

It could also be so dry next week that that’s it until??? Strange times indeed.

1 contract out of 4 left and that’s the NHS…

All anyone here is worried about is when the football will be finished, Null & Void is the rangers news here atm. @marty They Mad.

Thread. Apparently the federal no eviction thing only applies to HUD properties. And even a local eviction thing only applies to new court cases. Processed cases can proceed as normal. Wanna make a bet this sheriff is somehow getting his bread buttered with every eviction?

Hopefully one of these people gives the Deputy the virus.

I scolded my mom for going to the Philadelphia flower show on a bus but she knows more about public health and viruses than anyone I’ve met, so it’s hard for me to be persuasive on this.

idk if people who are dying from this are able to talk, but if they are, an interview with some scoffpox boomer who knows they’re dying of it could be effective propaganda. Like that Italian ten days thing on s̶t̶e̶r̶o̶i̶d̶s̶ broad-spectrum antivirals.
