For some restaurants half-profitable may be enough for them to squeak through. Maybe rents have to come down during this as well.
I’m not going to cry too hard for the landlords who only get to sit on their asses and collect half the rent for 18 months.

Yes this to me needs to be the biggest key for opening back up anywhere. You have to have an aggressive plan to keep testing young people or anyone who’s out in the pubic a lot - and immediately isolate them from their household unless they live alone. By all accounts family clusters are the biggest source of spread.
We’re probably going to have isolation “hotels” combined with payments to they don’t go broke while isolated. Otherwise people will avoid getting tested.
The US may be helped here in that we live with our parents less than a lot (most?) countries. But in the big cities most of the youngs have roommates or are starting a family.

Hopefully you’ll avoid it.
My workmate is in his second day at home with this virus (unconfirmed) and we went for tea several times last week when he might well have been infectious. I don’t have any symptoms yet.

I am beautiful and symmetric so if the way out of this is stoning ugly people I say go for it.

Yeah I mentioned this a while back. From everything I’ve heard and read these groups are kind of like the Amish - they see themselves as a sovereign nation which only tolerates the govt telling them what to do to the point they absolutely have to our go to jail.

What panic and fear? All I see is people preparing. Are some being overly cautious buying toilet paper and pasta? Sure. But as far as I know, there’s no roiting going on. I mean hell, even with Dr Fauci saying to self isolate, people are ignoring that advice.

The real death rate is always going to be off by some fudge factor of people who never get tested. The only thing that’s predictive as to what’s coming is relative death and critical care rate assuming you’re keeping your testing strategy constant (which the US is not).
Whatever the real death rate is we know two things, 1) it certainly goes up if the hospitals get overrun, 2) combined with #1 it will almost certainly kill 100s of 1000s if not up to 2 million people or more if we just let things run their course with no social intervention.
