Lots of people, especially poor people, don’t file taxes.
Send it to everyone and then claw it back on 2020 taxes above x and tax it above y. Below some number it doesn’t matter.
How hard is that?
Just sent sen Casey an email in fact.including suggestion the rich can donate it for a dollar for dollar offset on the handout part.
Donating checks to support undocumented immigrants would be a pretty good thing to do, if you can afford it.
I might just give it to the woman who does my fluff and fold. She had both her kids at the laundromat yesterday. She said it was only two weeks and I warned her it might be longer.
I still haven’t touched the clothes except to open the plastic thing and let them air out. Gonna give it a couple days.
I know the laundromats are still open but they might do away with fluff and fold and I’ll have to do my own laundry like a fucking animal. I know that would suck for her though.
Goddamit now my boss wants daily progress updates. I’m going to have to do way more work now that I’m working from home. This blows.
I hate talking on the phone.
I also can’t sit still while on the phone. I pace around the house. When the dot com bubble burst in 2001, I was laid off. Didn’t get a job until the following year and by that time, I had been accepted to grad school. Thus, I took a call center job for four months just to make a few bucks (was a decent job, actually, and I interned on the corporate side the next summer).
One day I was on the phone with a customer and was fascinated that I could see over the all the cubicles. It took me a few seconds to realize that I had been standing up the entire call and my colleagues were all probably watching me. I had to really focus on staying seated after that. Needing to enter things on the computer helped.
Poor people file even if they don’t owe any taxes so they can get the EICTC and the child tax credit. The number of people who don’t file taxes or already receive money from the Feds through stuff like SNAP has to be very small. Don’t think it would be that hard to do.
That’s true, but could they do something like have one form you fill out with the IRS get paid if you don’t have a tax return? They’ll have to leverage some existing infrastructure to make the payments.
I’m trying to figure out what I want to do about the cleaning lady who comes to our house (don’t know if she’s undocumented or not - your post just reminded me of her). It’s only every two weeks and while we chat sometimes, I typically stay in another room and let her do her thing. She came over last week, right when everyone realized we need social distancing, but I didn’t want to cancel, since she’s going to be really hard up for money if nobody has her come over.
I mean, she’s cleaning the house, so that’s good, but I suppose she could still end up coughing or sneezing on stuff or touching counters with germy hands AFTER cleaning. I don’t know. Wouldn’t be until next week.
Otherwise blameless life, obv.
My kid is definitely doing more work via parent-supervised distance learning than they usually do at school.
Online poker traffic seems to be picking way up. I played last night and saw a bunch of new faces, almost all of which weren’t very good. Just an idea if people are looking for something to keep occupied while social distancing.
I’ve gotten away with “my WFH connection has been slow” for two days but the other shoe is about to drop, lol.
Cancel but still pay was our line and feels completely correct, though I accept being able to do that with no worries is a privilege.
Edit - that said I just realised I didn’t actually do the payment today, so in fact we are scum.
Could you imagine how good the games would be if it was legal nationwide?!
I knew this was coming, but still feels like shit has been getting realer by the minute. Lived here for almost 13 years, and never imagined something like this happening.
Maybe good ol’ Sheldon will get on board now that casinos are closing.
I have a call in an hour during which I intend to tell my partners I don’t want to come into the office tomorrow as scheduled. I would prefer that LA lock down so that it’s not on me but oh well.
