Because of Brexit I had to get the foreigner version recently, till then I just needed my passport to do stuff. I’ve never been aware of anyone being asked to produce one, not sure if authorities have that power (to just ask anyone) but I would guess so.
Good luck with that
I doubt they’ll be paying for it.
Uh, after the 149th time watching Frozen 2, it won’t look so bad.
Went in for treatment today at Stanford. Didn’t see anything different except there was a rent-a-cop asking the usual Covid questions. Street traffic seemed unchanged - a HUGE high end mall was jammed with parkers, although Neiman Marcus seemed a little slow.
Hit a pizza place today and got a huge pizza + order of wings - probably enough for 3 meals for the two of us over the week - got a Rotissarie chicken for the same reason. We’ve got 10 days or so of food in the house we’re staying in, and a fat 12 pak of TP in the garage that I’m going to claim. I’m going to try to make a grocery run tomorrow for a few things - I’m actually concerned about the stores being empty in Reno, because pretty much everything gets shipped over I-80 and it’s been closed for over 48 hrs due to weather.
Think we’re just going to ride out the market, where all my retirement lives - BUT for reasons that don’'t matter I had 100K in cash at the end of the year I was going to invest but didn’t because I got sick, and we’re doing a refi and I pulled 300K out of my retirement for reasons per the banker. So we have a pretty good cushion, for now.
Interesting times.

Food supply chain may be fine but that doesn’t help when every store is out of bread and meat immediately
The McElroy Brothers Will Be in Trolls 2.
I’m banking on the people who have stocked up on 30 days of food not going back in a few days for another 30 days of food. Hopefully it all smooths itself out.
Last run had no bread or flour, but they did have something and it looks like it’ll come to pancake sandwiches.
And oh yeah, thinking of you @6ix, I got some multi-vitamins for maybe the first time in my life in case we all have to live off of Cheetos for a while.
Glad things are going decently for you. Enjoy the hell out of that pizza and wings.
it’s the big one in detroit. they’re not officially shutting down the university yet but that seems to be the direction they’re going and they’re letting us know so we can prepare. well, i’m not preparing, i’m home browsing tumblr with a sore throat lol
Welp, fitness place closing until at least March 31. Seems like if you’re gonna go the english/dutch route of trying to gain some herd immunity, gyms and schools might be better than averages places to keep open.
Looks like for now it’s going to be some jogging on the beach and probably some body weight exercises. Will have to see what they mean by, “Orangetheory Fitness will be offering at-home workouts to keep members active during this uncertain and difficult time.”
What was the link(s) for evidence of aerosol contagiousness?
I picked up some multi-vitamins today, too, lol.
Government in general acting more forcefully has me less stressed. That and I doubled my Effexor last week.
But anyhow, I know that this is going to ramp exponentially for another 1-2 weeks then it should slow. Not that it’s not still way too late and life will be ugly but at least there is something like hope.
My hammy is preventing heavy exercises. That would help more.
Are you grant funded?
Our lab is, and I don’t know how that’s going to play out. The two PIs in our group (not me, I’m just a high level technician) are supposed to have a web-based meeting with other groups that got the grant we got. The grant runs out on April 1, but is supposed to transition to a second phase for another 3 years, assuming NIH approval.
I don’t know how all this is going to happen if university research activities start shutting down.
we are. idk how they’re gonna work out the grants, my impression is everybody including the chair of our department is making things up as they go. this isn’t something we’ve prepared for at all.
