SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

They cost a lot less than hospitals and no one else will see you if you don’t have insurance. I went to them for a couple injuries when I didn’t have insurance and was fine with them. I consider using them even having insurance because of the deductibles.

Some good news

I can’t imagine how India will be anything other than completely fucked. It is an insanely dense country with little concept of personal space, very lax hygiene standards, and high wealth global jet setters living right next to poverty-crushed slums.

Some powerful groups support DeSantis’ decision not to shut down Florida. Here’s who.

Trump has since said he wants the economy back in business by Easter. DeSantis, who owes his victory in the 2018 Republican primary to Trump’s endorsement, has not endorsed that idea but is already questioning repealing other intervention measures, such as keeping kids out of school.

I finished that article in awe of the science but more worried about the prospect of a vaccine.

That said, we do have a bunch of sequences, so the same sort of analysis used to draw that phylogenetic tree can be done to look at where in the viral genome these changes are happening, and that’s useful for hypothesis generation. Places where lots of mutations are happening: probably unimportant. Places where no mutations are happening: really important. Places where one geographical clade has a characteristic mutation that is being conserved over time: very, very interesting.

Yeah this is what I posted before.

There was always a slim chance India might escape the worst of it but now it’s escalating in other hot, humid countries like Thailand some parts of India with poor medical facilities and sanitation are probably in trouble.

The same may go for sub Sarahan Africa which has this to deal with on top of 400,000 malarial deaths p.a.

So I’ve been really fatigued for a few days. Had a headache last night, which is super rare for me. About 20 mins ago I got very lightheaded and felt like I was going to pass out. My pulse ox level was 93-95, when it normally runs 99. No difficulty breathing though.

I’ve had very limited exposure over the last two weeks, so it’s unlikely this has anything to do with covid19, but it would be real nice to know for sure.

Forgive me if this is a really stupid question: But if we can isolate a strain that is proven to be particularly mild, is there any chance that we can use that strain as a vaccine?

Gotta say Trudeau is killing it.

Potentially, but that’s like a last resort vaccine. It’s really hard to know right now if a strain is actually mild, and trying to demonstrate safety is going to be really hard.

80% in the UK for employed and self-employed - 2nd place not so bad though

Any measures for the self-employed? yet.

Self employed measures were announced last week.

80% of profits to max of £2,500 a month in UK.

Trudeau should be building more temp hospitals

For feck sake were they all having an orgy in the Cobra room or what?

First the Prime Minister, then the Health Secretary now the Chief Medical Officer (maybe):

USA#1 going to be the first country to reach 6 figures of confirmed cases at some point today

900 more added to death toll in Italy

Not sure how practical that would be. The Provinces have all the tools to build hospital infrastructure. I guess the Federal government could deploy the army for this purpose but our army doesn’t have the vast resources of the US army.
