SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

p.s.

The thought in my skull the past few is that this virus could be a fictional, intentionally heavy-handed device in an allegory about the main theme underlying political thought and action. It’s that on-the-nose.

Cuomo said he’s talking to owners about taking over hotels.

Re Liberty University

Well at least Falwell is targeting the virus well. That’s a whole lot of right wings olds that are gonna die when those kids finish the semester and go home.

Odds that he is safely holed up?

Can we get a new badge? I’d like one if so:

We have to be careful, though. As you essentially point out welfare is pretty much just absent from the calculation at the moment, it’s more like “what amount do we need to give to keep them in line”. So if we start talking earnestly about a calculation involving people dying, suffering etc. and balancing that with the economy, it could just give cover to the fuckers. That is they latch onto it in a superficial way and then say “see, even you agree some people have to die as it’s in the general interest.” Before just doing what they would have anyway.

It’s why I always hate getting drawn into discussions about “ethical” foreign policy. That is absolutely not what drives foreign policy despite what people say, so talking about it as if it’s real just gives cover to the politicians that take advantage of it.

New York update. Not sure why the number of tests went down

Date Total Cases Daily Tests New Cases
3/24/2020 25,665 12,906 4,790
3/23/2020 20,875 16,739 5,707
3/22/2020 15,168 15,915 4,812
3/21/2020 10,356 12,979 3,254
3/20/2020 7,102 10,072 2,950
3/19/2020 4,152 7,584 1,770
3/18/2020 2,382 4,482 1,008
3/17/2020 1,374 ? 432

Where do you get this from? Are they reporting on numbers for the day before(3/24 numbers show the total for 3/23) or will the 3/24 number be updated more today?

All numbers from Cuomo’s daily press conferences, so they represent tests and confirmed cases at end of previous day.

What are the businesses going to do? Fire everyone? How are they going to be making money with all their workers back and no customers?

This is where solidarity is key.

My friend just got confirmed to have it. However they didn’t do the actual test for the virus, but did like 10 other test like X-ray and oxygen level tests.

They told him he has it 100%, however to keep the numbers low they can’t give him the actual test.

This is in New Jersey.

I doubt the warm weather will slow the virus down. Florida has been hot as shit (close to 90 on the peninsula) and if that thermometer map is an indication, shit’s gonna hit the fan here soon.

There’s a non-zero chance that I’ll be returning to America to attend a funeral. I mean it’s a very slim chance, but a chance nonetheless. Of course, border restrictions wouldn’t allow me to go back to the CR if I do that, meaning that I’ll be stuck in America.

I mean theoretically I can go to Ireland but I wouldn’t have a place to live or a job. Granted, I wouldn’t have a place to live or a job in America either. Plus, I’d probably get coronavirus on one flight or the other.

Gotta say the targeting of Coronavirus is improving after the piss poor aim at Seattle and NYC.

Do you think the deceased / soon to be deceased would want you to risk getting stranded / homeless? I’d be wary of three things… 1) Borders and Airports are still closing 2) Are US still letting in travellers without requiring 2 weeks quanrantine? 3) You want to visit the latest hotspot?

Stay safe
