The no taste part is now my excuse to eat even more chocolate than I already did since working from home started. If this lasts as long as I think it will then I will need a potato diet when it is over.
Don’t worry everyone, capitalism will solve this. It’s like our healthcare system problems on very expensive steroids!
In his speech tonight to close Senate business for the day, Bitch McConnell said the Dems were playing politics by asking for more help for the workers and they should just agree with whatever the R’s come up with or else they would be looked at as evil obstructionists. He is without a doubt the biggest piece of trash on the planet. I don’t even think it’s close, and that is saying a ton with all the other scumbags on the right.
I wore my P100 mask when I visited my parents today, as much to protect them as me, given their health situation. I took it off when I went outside and put it in a bag to wipe down later. Decided to leave it for tomorrow because I get like mental system overload from all the layers of precautions so when I got home I just needed to shower, feel safe in my own body and relax a bit.
Anyway my plan is to put the filters in a brown paper bag for 10+ days then consider them eligible for re-use. If I was pressed I’d say 3 days, but I can rotate back and forth and only expect to need the mask once every 1-2 weeks anyway. I haven’t been using it to go down to the mail room.
So I’d come out of the store, carefully remove the mask, carefully remove my gloves, sanitize my hands, then sanitize my face either with hand sanitizer (feels ridiculous to do this but whatever) or alcohol based wipes. Wash with soap when you get home.
Yea anything that happens during the critical period for language development has huge implications in the future.
I posted about my brother who works for Delta a couple days ago. Talked to him more about the situation.
What he’s extremely pissed off about is that he has a lot of friends who work at Delta and he is the only one who voluntarily took unpaid leave. He said some of them have spouses who make tons of money and many would have no trouble weathering a month without pay. He won’t, either, which is why he volunteered. He said everyone always talks about how they “succeed together,” but when the shit hits the fan, they won’t walk the walk anymore.
He said it’s something like 13,000 of 95,000 employees who have volunteered to go with no pay. He and the two other “leaders” of his team have all volunteered and are staggering their months. There will also be pay cuts coming in the future - he’s hoping that by volunteering, he’ll be spared the pay cut, but he’s not counting on it.
He was also annoyed that his boss kept looking for volunteers, saying, “no pressure” a million times. He likes his boss, but he feels very pressured and is going to tell him as much.
The CEO e-mailed everybody and said the company is going to activate like a $2.5 billion line of credit or something. 75% flight reduction. Lots of employees sacrificing pay, even if it doesn’t end up to be voluntary. Even with all that, the company is still going to lose $50 million a day. The top execs have all taken massive pay cuts, but of course, they still have other incentive packages (which I guess aren’t worth that much now).
Oh, and my brother still had to go in and work in the airport the last couple weeks, so he’s probably at risk. They took lots of precautions, but still.
Ironically, it seems to attack the healthiest people the hardest since they never get sick to begin with. The immune system goes haywire and their lungs fill up w/ fluid.
Grunching and likely repeating but it’s important enough to repeat so more people see it. The outside of the mask must be considered contaminated so when you take it off you want to either avoid touching it all together (disposable mask) or be damn sure not to touch your face after touching it. Take it off slowly and carefully, you don’t want it swinging around and bumping your face.
When I’m going through precautions I try to do one thing at a time and think for a second “Did I do that right? What do I need to do next? Where will I stand? What will I touch?” Etc…
Especially given that I’m getting like 4 hours of sleep a night and the type of person who’s great at thinking on a high level and terrible at avoiding stupid little mistakes.
Can he file for unemployment?
Yeah, I wore latex gloves to get gas the other day (maybe being overcautious, don’t know) and I carefully thought about what hand touched the pump handle and what hand I used for everything else. Threw the gloves out after replacing the pump.
I think, based on my understanding, if you cough or sneeze at a person wearing a surgical mask, it will likely get around it and they’re at risk. Obviously the mask blocks a direct hit, which must help reduce the risk somewhat.
But if you cough/sneeze directly into it, you’re reducing the radius of most of the respiratory droplets. So maybe 90% don’t get out and 10% get out but don’t go as far. I don’t know the real numbers, I’m just theorizing about the concept.
I think of it almost like a form of herd immunity related to the spread. If everyone masks up, the rate of spread drops a ton, and all are safer. If half mask up, it will most likely be less than half as effective as having all masked up… Assuming I understand it correctly.
He thinks he can - he’s looking into it. As I said, he can easily handle this financially (single, no kids, has saved a lot of money), but also as I told him, any little bit is better than nothing.
My younger daughter’s gelato shop laid her and 4 other people off today - all the part timers.
Quorum in the Senate is 51, and it is presumed to be there as long as nobody calls for a roll call. So in theory you could pass a bill 30-20 if nobody asked for a count to check on quorum.
Seems like a non-zero chance this comes up soon. I posted maybe a week ago (feels like a month so probably only 3 days ago) that I wouldn’t be surprised if the GOP didn’t have a majority at that point in time due to self-quarantined Senators. These developments are very interesting in that regard.
Interesting, BetOnline seems to think the NBA will return before August 1. You can risk up to $500 to win $700 on the no side.
I think the season will be canceled. I just found out I can bet and watch simulated madden games and other sports. Bookie let me know today. So now I have something to do while sitting at home.
That doesn’t even make sense. That puts them way too close to the next season. I don’t see them doing anything that late in the summer. They would cancel the season by then and hope to get into the next season on time.
