Isn’t that what happened with the " spanish ’ flu? It mutated over summer and came back way deadlier?
Although I don’t think it became seasonal. Probably killed too many people and burned out.

1918 flu says “hi”
I just used Italy where they are still making restrictions tougher as the example and that winding restrictions down would take just as long as putting them in place to avoid resurgence. So right now that is already 2 months minimum and still counting for the rest of the world that didn’t act much faster than Italy.
In SK no one under 30 has died. In Italy one 34 year old. Youngest person in UK to die was 18, but had underlying conditions. The kids at the beach are not going to be dropping dead.
This was my wifes general thought, but she is kinda coming around today. Our plan jow is probably to likely delay the move until this ends and see if we can get out of the lease we signed wednesday and take back the 30 day notice we gave to our current place.
I thought I was making good progress. Then today my wife asked if I thought it was ok to go to the Starbucks drive thru. I can only assume that means that she is going along with all the stuff we are doing just to humor me, but she probably thinks I’m nuts.
Yup. If it’s 6 months I would be shocked and feel likewe lucked out. “15 days to cure the virus and return to normal!” Would be an easy dunk for any normally competent politician. Luckily we have Grandpa Joe!
Yes the fall version made healthy immune systems go haywire. People basically drowned in there own immune response pumping so much fluid into their lungs. That’s why it killed the healthiest- young adults. The same idiots that are not paying attention today.
But yes it seems more likely that it attenuates with time, though there is no selective pressure yet. It’s perfectly fine circulating in the 80% that don’t get super sick. Usually attenuation results from high lethality. Strains that sicken and kill too fast don’t spread as well.
Good thing. Somebody has to carry all the caskets.
1918 flu didn’t become seasonal though, did it? Wasn’t it H1N1?
After everything that has happened over the last 3 years, I don’t even think COVID will be the last of it.
Ok, fine, a bunch of Gen Z kids are going to be hospitalized and have permanent lung damage and die young.

No, they’re not. Unless by “a bunch” you mean a very very very small percentage of millions of people is still “a bunch”. Some of them will infect their parents a small percentage of whom will have serious problems and fewer of them will infect grandparents who will commonly have serious problems.
We went for a drive today. The wife has ancestors from the 1700s in a cemetery about 1/2 hour away.
We reflected on what the generations have gone through in America
Childhood diseases
Waterborn diseases
Yellow fever
Smallpox
Polio
Much of the time, when lots people got sick, everyone else just understood to isolate. (In cases like yellow fever that didn’t work) but much of the time it did.
Having mostly conquered the bacterial diseases (until recently with resistant strains) and mass inoculations vs viral strains we have lost our societal memory of how to deal with these things and what can happen if we don’t. Look at Asia- SARS retaught them within the current generations.
We in US/Western Europe have short circuited or gotten lucky with a few in recent memory (swine flu, SARS) so it seems like the doctors are crying wolf.
But not this time.
This is the downside of everyone using this short temporary deadlines in order to not create panic. None of them were issued with the belief that would be the end but just to keep people from freaking out.
When all this deadlines get extended a lot of people will freak out. People legitimately think this was just a two week thing that will soon be over. Instead of something where we are 4-8 weeks out from the peak deveststion.
At the end of the 2nd week, the death toll will keep people at home. We have done nothing effective as a nation yet. I really don’t see anything but a modest downturn in the exponent for the death rate for the next 3-4 weeks by which time it will be very ugly in many locations and historic in NYC.
I feel like any kind of expectation for anything before September is wishcasting.
HOWEVER, the Trump administration indicated today their business overlords want them to send workers back to work now so they really plan on trying to mask people up and send them back to work.
There is no way the US death numbers are accurate
