SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

If it gets to the point where everyone is trying to steal from credit card companies I suspect that money may be worth not that much.

No, those big credit card companies just write it off

Talked to the wife who works in finance at a hospital. The sticking point is cash up front. A lot of these contracts are on credit, long term, complicated with rebates, etc because hospital supplies, numbers wise, don’t really fluctuate too much out of what’s expected.so it’s a cash flow problem. They don’t have the cash in the moment because it’s tied up

Australian states announcing shutdowns of all non essential services … contrary to the federal government. lolz

Yeah I’m sure there’s perfectly cromulent details as to why every wildly profitable industry in America needs a bailout after one bad month.

I edited my post down a bit. But I don’t think they need a bailout, except for rural hospitals. A loan to handle the surge should be just fine.

It’s on the states here too.

I don’t really see a problem with that. Australia is a big place. China did not apply the measures in Hubei to everywhere.

Of course both Australia and USA government are going to make terrible decisions.

It is because people in Sydney are not listening and it is actually easier for the state goverment to pull the trigger on this. Friend of mine wanted to have a run in the park but turned around because the entire park was crowded with people having picnics and kids playing as if everything is normal.

This is fine. Things are progressing at very different rates in different states. It’s not beyond the bounds of reason that we might contain it in SA still. As far as I’m aware there are still no cases of community transmission here.

ok we are in the crisis era. what specifically was the start of the crisis era?

  • covid-19 first noticed (late 2019)
  • 1/23/2020 wuhan officially shut down
  • diamond princess quarantine debacle (feb 2020)
  • 3/09/2020
  • 3/10/2020
  • 3/11/2020
  • 3/12/2020
  • 3/13/2020
  • 3/14/2020
  • crisis era hasn’t even begun yet

Progressing differently maybe. But as we have seen these things escalate ridiculously. A state with half the infected per capita could catch up/overtake in a day. What chance is not beyond reason that a 1m plus city like Adelaide can contain it? Melbourne is absolutely screwed.

You need community transmission for things to start escalating. All the cases in SA have so far been brought here from elsewhere or contracted from a known case, and the border is now closed.

To be clear, I think the chances of us actually containing it are very small, but it would still be pointless pain for us to close business and schools now. Even more so in NT where they have 4 cases of it and very good chances of containment. Tasmania also has very solid containment chances.

Yeah, to reiterate I’m on Team Be As Cautious As Possible but people should try to not needlessly scare themselves (unless you know you need scares to keep yourself cautious, in which case, go nuts).

If I said a morgue has a mortality rate of 100% that would sound scary as fuck if you didn’t know what a morgue was.
