I think if you practice distancing etc it’s not horrible. Having said that I think you should be minimizing trips where possible. So either don’t go or go and buy a stash.
Our local government had some good guidance around buying twice what you normally would, so not taking an unreasonable amount but also cutting the number of trips in half.
And then, when this is “over” or at least the worst has passed, every single one of these “it’s just the flu” motherfuckers who didn’t die is going to say “see? I told you so!” I am not responsible for my actions when that happens.
Here’s the Dems’ summary of the original bill, before negotiations, per AOC:
The emergency paid sick days legislation:
Requires all employers to allow employees to gradually accrue seven days of paid sick leave and to provide an additional 14 days available immediately in the event of any public health emergency, including the current coronavirus crisis;
Requires all employers to provide an additional 14 days of paid sick leave, available immediately at the beginning of a public health emergency, including the current coronavirus crisis;
Ensures paid sick leave covers days when your child’s school is closed due to a public health emergency, when your employer is closed due to public health emergency, or if you or a family member is quarantined or isolated due to a public health emergency;
Reimburses small businesses—defined as businesses with 50 or fewer employees—for the costs of providing the 14 days of additional paid sick leave used by employees during a public health emergency;
So if the franchisees had < 50 employees, they get reimbursed. Seems like one McDonald’s location would be close to that size, and franchisees with multiple locations would be over. But the parent corporation should be stepping in here with a package as well. My son works at McD’s, and said if the store has to close, he gets paid. Not sure whether that’s just his franchise.
My Nextdoor is surprisingly drama free. Idk what it is about Ohio, but people seem to be taking this seriously even though there’s a lot of Trumpers out here.
Franchise owners are wealthy. They can take a loan or sell one of their 8 houses or their stocks fuck them
That’s the entire point is they have the means but don’t want disruptions at all while poor people will starve to death
Same reason I’m here again today in the tax office because my Uber rich owner wants to squeeze in a few more tax returns before the governor shuts down the state for two weeks.
