He refuses to ever state what his alternative for capitalism (but we know form other threads it involves not voting), and he doesn’t answer any of my points.

Yeah I had a similar exchange in the Climate Change thread, here’s a summary:

Climate change is a tough problem because fixing it involves substantial economic pain, because its devastating effects will not become obvious until it’s too late, and because unilateral action on the part of any one government probably isn’t enough to fix it anyway. Switching the economic system to socialism won’t do anything about any of this. It’s just tough to have a democratic system and expect people to vote against their immediate material interest based on what to them is just some abstraction.

The problem is one of hierarchy, absentee ownership and the estrangement of those effected. Any system that has these attributes is not environmentally sustainable. Since absentee ownership is integral to capitalism, it is not environmentally sustainable. QED.

Let’s say I grant you this. So what? What are you proposing instead?

“A system without absentee ownership” is not magically a solution to climate change. People are going to need to produce energy.

This is a thread about climate change? I assume you’re arguing that some non-capitalist system is a solution to climate change. If you’re not, I have no idea why you’re here.

LOL no. I’m arguing that capitalism will end life on earth. Nothing more.

Like to establish that capitalism is at fault for climate change you have to demonstrate not just that climate change is happening under capitalism, but that you have some alternative system in mind that would prevent this. Sabo will never actually make any positive proposals, he’s only interested in poking holes in things because that’s what allows him to take this didactic, lecturing tone all the time. He’s one of those guys who bolds the parts of his own posts he regards as most educational for the dummies he’s talking to, which is my #1 tell for a narcissist who is never going to take seriously the idea that he might learn anything from others.
