Rule Vote: Mod Elections and Terms

the type of intolerable is where we disagree, ok. but the independent judiciary is a good solution, why did you vote against it?

That you count a volunteer mod getting trolled into ragequitting as a success says about all anyone should need to know about the seriousness of your moderation proposals or your bid to be a mod at all.

Because the community seems to prefer mods dealing with their complainants themselves, per the straw poll.

No. You’re reading my posts in the worst possible light. I think mods turning over is a good thing, and a fresh start now – particularly now, with bad feelings running so high for whatever reason – would be good for everyone. As a practical matter, your insistence to remain mod is the only thing that keeps the custom I suggested above from happening. That’s all I meant.

Honestly I don’t know why everyone is so mad all of a sudden. If you have any insights I’d appreciate you sharing them. It seems like everything has just blown up for no reason at all.

I can see the value for some organizations in having meetings/committees to discuss stuff like this before polling, but I don’t think we can pull that off.

I really don’t like the idea of any kind of scheduled votes of confidence. It makes all of this so personal.

There is a contradiction between “we don’t want mods for life” and “mods can be indefinitely and re-elected” once you consider that mods are right now serving at the pleasure of the community and can be recalled at any time. That should hopefully never happen and anyone who is at all interested in not having a clusterfuck every 6 months or whatever should not want a scheduled public evaluation of mod performance.

Either mods should just be permanent, barring extreme situations where they are removed, or they should just automatically rotate and no one has to have any hard feelings about it at all.

Not sure what you think the disconnect is there.

I was leaving because of all the conflict and everyone being so mad. I think a change in moderators could really help de-escalate that. And I think a team of people who come from across different perceived factions in the forum could particularly help with that de-escalation. But if everyone stays so mad at each other and there continues to be this level of conflict I probably will leave. Certainly not threatening those who want me to stay, or promising for those who want me to leave. If I do I’ll just stop posting.

Call me crazy, but actively hunting for mod scalps doesn’t deescalate.

I don’t think there are that many mad people. This thread should be a bit of a magnet for mad people and only 13 people have posted in it and I think only 6 of them are mad.

I happen to be extremely mad at everyone and will be maintaining my level of conflict for the time being.

I want to say a lot and keep typing and retyping this post but Keed’s posting comes off as sincere. I don’t get this werewolf-y kind of vibe where we’re reading all his posts in the worst possible light with the worst possible motives.

I dont mean this post as an endorsement or non-endorsement of keed. Just a little confused at this right now.

So is anyone who’s advocating for regular and mandatory mod rotation “actively hunting for mod scalps,” or is that just me?

Wookie has sketched out a plan for making serious-business binding polls, I’d suggest restarting this and making it clear to everyone that it will be binding.

This only works if all other threads are locked IMO.
