I agree, we should not be referring to you as the ‘UK bros’ because there are plenty of people on this site from the UK who are not assholes and not a part of your group, and there are also lots of captains who are not from the UK. “The Captains” or “The clique” have always seemed appropriate to me.
I’m not going to go dig it up but I will vouch that your recollection is basically accurate. (Might be 100 percent dead on accurate, but definitely is at least basically accurate.)
Also, I said I have nothing to apologize for and stand by my posts. I didn’t say anything about being a perfect angel. Many/most were more reserved than me in the PM. It’s just that I didn’t post anything I haven’t expressed on the open forum. (Don’t want to make it look like I was saying, hey it wasn’t me it was those other guys being mean.)
It’s also curious that none of the other little cliques here have ever responded to the request to share their PM threads, which I’m sure are filled with incense and peppermints.
This place never ceases to amaze me.

Wookie is saying that a non moderated forum is less than that of here. We do the same when we think of 4chan, 7chan, Thedonald, chiefsplanet, stormfront etc. We make those same posts in reference to those places.
You obviously think it is unfair and offensive to have your other forum decried as “less than” this place. But, you don’t like nor care about what Wookie thinks! A primary reason it was created was to be away from him! If you make a “no wookies forum,” it’s weird to get mad when Wookie doesn’t talk nicely about it!
I don’t have any connection to Wookie, but if you spend so much effort making an entirely new place because of them, don’t expect them to say nice things about it!

The Captains has grown and grown because of you and the way you talk about it. Afaik, zero “Captains” have become not-Captains.
You are referring to the time when you scoffed at the dangers of Covid and whatabouted Malaria back in February of 2020? Yes, I remember that well. Very prescient of you! Good thing Covid turned out to be no big deal.
It’s been asked a few times but what do the people who feel they have been othered and created another forum want at this point? I have listened. Have had long talks with several in that group and I think i understand and empathize with how they feel. I would like to do what I can to rectify that both for the parts I was guilty of and in the macro sense.
I haven’t been arguing for bans i voted against all of them. I voted for rotating mods. Other than the initial angry spree after i didn’t like what was said in the pm thread I have tried to see this situation as objectively as i can. I’m not saying you shouldn’t feel othered. I just want to know what, if anything, i can do to try and help this entire situation now a year or whatever later.

You’ll also remember how I was the first person on the forum to say that governments should prepare to lock down their populations, back in January 2020, so obviously quite a big deal.
It was about the request for a sub forum on this site free of his moderation. Not a request for a secret club.

I believe he is referring to the actual new forum, not the proposed sub forum that was DOA 2 years ago?
And yeah, I’m just saying a reaction is expected, not defending the specifics at all.
With many posts from even people I dislike here, their actions while maybe not justified, were the result of being poked at a lot and the context is important. Churchill, whom I haven’t gotten on with got poked a lot.

I never have said Wookie is an innocent victim. At all. I have just recently stated that given the context of the efforts against him, it is understandable he does not view the other forum with affection. That’s it!
I’ve only promoted the banning of one person on this site over its history. I explicitly said jal should be banned because their behavior that had caused many small term bans would continue. It did!
I said it was funny that this was the only place that would ban someone 20 times, but have thousands of posts whether they should be permanently banned in the case of Churchill.
I asked Victor this week if jmakin should be banned, and wanted his honest opinion before making up my own. He said no and I ended up not voting since it wasn’t close anyway.
I am now in favour of unbanning everyone, so people can’t pretend to be martyrs.
I think your posts have been helpful. You can do a small amount to make things a little better, but you can’t change everything all at once by yourself. It’s like climate change, but on a small scale. The scale, small as it is, is still so big that no one person can dramatically change it on their own. As this place tends to be more hospitable to people who have left, more people will probably post more here. Also, between here and discord you can interact with a lot of the people on the other site as it is.
