RFC: Remove Riverman as a mod

No dude. You lit u the thread for hours with trash

Just read more. Post less

I think with a thread like the Ukraine war, we can expect some people to reappear. That being said read more is not bad advice.

I think a four hour ban was about the best possible action when bill got over his skis.

People mentioned silencing, if that is a thing that works as well.

This thread and the where should I drive when nuclear war breaks out cracks me up. A 4hour ban is what this is about?

As stated multiple times, this isn’t about a four hour ban. It’s about the negative manner which Riverman has modded the forum. This includes issuing what was the worst ban decision in forum history, 4 days for JonnyA who previously had zero issues for daring to make a post about cruise stocks. It’s because he’s caused the relationship with other mods on the forum to boil over on multiple occasions in his short tenure. Its because he is moderating people for disagreeing or calling him out on topics. He has already been told multiple times he shouldn’t be moderating posts that involve him and to leave those decisions to other mods. It’s because he’s driving away posters who have previously had zero issues and making them not want to participate in this forum any further.

The amount of people supporting that he should be removed as a mod isn’t based in a single four hour ban. That ban is simply a small symptom as he feels that he is in the right to moderate what arguments are allowed to be posted on this forum.

Unless Riverman doesn’t like those positions.

What would be nice is if instead of you guys waited until they came for you, you realized this isn’t even true of the people you think it’s true of.

What have I witnessed lurking the Ukraine thread other than a disgusting amount of groupthink and patriotism that will never, ever go recognized by this group that clearly is sniffing its own farts–LOL “important thread” or “best thread on this subject”? You have people with a child’s understanding of diplomacy going unchecked by most, you have VFS posting some of the most inane garbage and calling anyone who disagrees a “tankie,” and then Chesspain coming in for the no-content tag team tankie drop against anyone who doesn’t toe the party line-- nice “discussion” board y’all have! Numerous people such as Riverman and Coasterbrad slamming people for making bad posts. Really? Riverman? Yeah all those deep content Riverman posts where he rips some tweet and mines it for likes, or the other kind of quality Riverman posts where he says LOL Democrats, not voting for you again, can’t fool me #14 suckers. I mean, at least suzzer actually posts his own thoughts on things even if about 50% of his posts are pretending to be completely mystified by a position that doesn’t line up with his own, as if it’s the most bizarre thing he’s ever read. At least you have Cuse and BS who certainly post highly appealing content, and of course are still surely planning to fix the Democratic party? I mean, there’s no possible way you could tell from their posts that they are completely delusional.

Well, at least there was Ikes, demanding a source from a guy who said he worked in the industry and SWIFT-banning wouldn’t do much, because it’s such an automatic response to challenge anyone else’s experiences other than his own and continue to drag the unwanted discussants in any way possible. If anyone should accept that someone giving their own personal-experience-related take IS the source, it’s Ikes, although perhaps there could have been some more proper challenges to a lot of his supereducated doctor’s takes.

But, I digress. You guys have no idea and you will never be able to see it because of your own pathetic Lord of the Flies bullshit you have going on, but Riverman is exactly the kind of mod you would expect him to be given what he is in real life. And SenorKeeed was the most thoughtful moderator you ever had and tried to do the right thing in an impossible situation and you will never be able to see what he was doing because of your own messed up bullshit. But this shit you have on this forum, where guys like BillHaywood are just immediately banned for stepping out of the group opinion or JonnyA is trashed for challenging one of the super-fair-and-unbiased overlords of the forum, that IS who you are, it IS what you asked for. You don’t want to have a discussion where people have different opinions, in fact you’re incapable of it. You want to masturbate on the page a la Cuse and get to feel good. It’s all emotion, and you’ve found the like-minded group that you need, and holy shit do you guys largely suck. But hey, you’re better than Republicans, and that is really the way you measure yourselves.

Some people just don’t have the humility to eat a ban without bitching about it.

You mean Cuse? You’re describing all your heroes.

Somebody like meb might be capable of looking at the behavior of the forum overlords and reconsidering that maybe he was wrong all along. There’s a few out there.

Not you, though. Authoritarianism runs deep.

Nah. I got banned for 3 days for suggesting that JT get his mental health checked out. Sure, I thought it sucked but I ate it and moved on with life.

Unfortunately, some people get banned for a day and lose their shit.

MD, you worked way too hard on that post when the target audience for your disdain is like two whole people.

Half (more?) of us are 35-45 year old men who have been posting/shit posting on message boards for 10-20 years.

Seriously posting about authoritarianism and mod tyranny for what we ALL know is a thankless and UNPAID job in it’s best form is weak.

Go mow the lawn and change your oil.

It’s weird that people are so determined to continue doing it given that it’s thankless and unpaid

The most annoying thing to me is whenever there IS a discussion, the few times that a lively debate actually occurs, it’s treated as a terrible thing that must be instantly squashed. Someone needs to be banned, or contained, or at the very least it must all be excised to another place to protect the delicate eyes of the forum. The claim becomes that the thread is “unreadable.” Because what’s even worse than the pain of reading about disagreement on a discussion forum is the struggle of sliding your finger two notches on the scroll wheel.

It is, but I don’t kink shame and neither should you.

And the best part is, those are the most popular threads that everyone rushes into specifically because people are flying in from the top rope.

Right…I personally love it when I log on and see one of the threads I read have 100 new posts. More entertainment for me!

But others apparently view it as like a chore?

ugh, another day at the post factory. 200 new posts in the moderation thread? No!

The most instructional posts itt should be the post where I’m suggesting Riverman should reconsider the way he is acting as a mod, and give suggestions to take up some of the recommendations JonnyA provided and commit to not moderating posts involving him as a poster. And then his response was basically lol no fuck off.

I don’t know how anyone can read that exchange or how Riverman responds to criticism and believe that this is a person who is trying to better the community and not just a guy on a power trip.

The “job” of our (unpaid) mods is not to respond to your grievances. Grow up.
