Reveal Thread: Walrus Grab Bag 2 - The Walrus Strikes Back

gdi NBZ with the big ol suspenseful tease…

In 2nd place, with 12 points:

Muse - Feeling Good

Although first popularized by Nina Simone, this tune is actually from the English musical The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd. The original cast recording was released a few months before the Nina Simone version. I could disqualify it for that reason and drop it to last. Would I punish someone for not knowing that Lori Lieberman is the original artist of Killing Me Softly with His Song, not Roberta Flack, if that were relevant?

But I love this song and I think it’s a somewhat understandable mistake. So here’s what I am going to do. I am going to give this song a five-spot penalty, dropping it to 7th and everyone above that is going to move up one notch. Have fun, Mr. Scorekeeper.

Gotta maximize drama.

Not sure if @NotBruceZ is joking. We don’t need to stand on ceremony for these IMO.

nope, he’s serious!

How well known is this? That sounds like some quite obscure trivia. Not sure what is the right way to handle this.

Not joking. I did it this way partly to draw it out and partly because I wasn’t sure how many spots I wanted to penalize it, so I wrote around that and didn’t want to rewrite parts.

If it was something I already knew, I would have snap-dumped it down to the nodium. Since I had to research it, I am willing to give it less of a penalty. I wrestled a bit with what was fair.

At least I’m not the only one getting trolled. I’m not even sure what’s happening at this point.

The last song is what I would guess @Yuv would submit. Believe it or not, there is additional fun with this track.

It happens in every category when the judge feel like the song doesn’t answer the category precisely but kinda. NBZ just chose an overly dramaric and confusing way to say it. He could have just placed the song 7th and explain that it has some category matching flaws.

My song wasn’t revealed yet which might bare no relevance to my final position

I am here for the drama of this reveal!

Yeah, i figured

I’m happy to take the penalty and 7th place.

It is the first line about the song in Wikipedia if someone googles it (which I just did).

" Feeling Good " (also known as " Feelin’ Good ") is a song written by English composers Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for the musical The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd . It was first performed on stage in 1964 by Cy Grant on the UK tour and by Gilbert Price in 1965 with the original Broadway cast.[1]

Nina Simone recorded “Feeling Good” for her 1965 album I Put a Spell on You . The song has also been covered by Traffic, Michael Bublé, John Coltrane, George Michael, Victory, Eels, Joe Bonamassa, EDEN, Muse, Black Cat Bones, Sammy Davis Jr., Bassnectar, and Avicii, among others.

I’d just never had reason to google it as I think people commonly ascribe the song to Nina Simone. A category host could choose to resolve it in any number of ways, and I think disqualifying would have been overly harsh, leaving it stand in 2nd would be fine, and finding something in between is ok too. It’s a game, its been a fun reveal, so for my part I am quite happy to accept things as they stand :slightly_smiling_face:
