This was me. Thanks for keeping my hopes alive a little longer.
I was fairly sure that it wasn’t.
For anyone familiar with the game Lodden Thinks, has anyone tried to run a Walrus-adjacent game where we give someone a list of songs and try to predict how they rank them?
Agree. Whoever submitted it definitely deserved more points. I say this as an unbiased and objective observer who submitted the song.
oh wow, that would be really tough
I couldn’t even predict how I‘d rank the songs.
And since 6th place has already been revealed, we should be about to see Yuv’s entry.
In 5th place, with 9 points:
Chantal Kreviazuk - Leaving on a Jet Plane, originally by John Denver
This offering from the Canadian songstress and classically-trained pianist is the submission I was most familiar with. It’s from the soundtrack to Armageddon, a movie I don’t think I’ve actually seen, although I am familiar with the plot. Kreviazuk is a wonderful performer and I have a couple of her albums.
If I were to sing this song at karaoke, I would prefer to mimic this version rather than John Denver or Peter, Paul, and Mary. Her cover is the song that often plays in my head when I say goodbye to the people I love after visiting them.
Heart cover was great although I don’t find it to be particularly distinct from the original.
I’ll take 5th. I’ll drop my second choice after we finish. I think they would wind up being close.
Fun fact: my wife told me that she is married to Canadian music royalty Raine Maida, a fact I didn’t know despite OLP being one of my three favorite bands
So either you are Raine Maida or you should really have a talk with your wife.
I guess that narrows it down.
I don’t remember her having an accent like this. I’m so confused.
Well, I was the one who inserted the Canadian music royalty line. Am I wrong in thinking that? I thought he was very highly regarded in the country
Lulz I’m dumb. I see now, shitty pronoun usage
That is quite sweet.
Yeah, what the heck? Is she doing a bit?
True. I thought that it might cost me some points but I hoped that the strings and choir made it different enough. I love this version so I just went with it.
@Yuv made the top 5 again?
This is the most rigged riggament that ever rogged on this earth!
eta: @yuv, am I doing it right?
In 4th place, with 10 points:
Within Temptation - Radioactive
This is from the Dutch symphonic metal band’s contributions to a local radio station which were collected for the album The Q-Music Sessions. This is not the first track I have heard off that album. It’s definitely a better choice than their version of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy”, but I enjoyed their cover of “Grenade” by Bruno Mars more (but don’t think that song would have gotten more points). She has a lovely voice and vocals seem to matter more to me than some of you.
Are there any revealed songs that are still unclaimed?
