Rap, Hip Hop, Grime, Drill - call it what you will

My favorite Gucci Mane joint. Rhyming “meteorologist” with “colleges”, pure genius. I put “Hustleologist” on the back of a custom jersey. :boom:

Biggie’s birthday was yesterday, my hip-hop station ran a whole block of his stuff, amazing shit.

I’m an old fudd-duddy now, but man, 90’s hip-hop was the absolute shit. Nothing like it.

If you want to learn more about how hip hop developed over the decades, I strongly recommend Hip Hop Evolution on Netflix

I’ve posted this before, but remember when a children’s movie had Busta, B-Real, and The Method Man on the soundtrack? The 90’s were an incredible time for hip-hop.

I was going to ask you UKers if you listened to Pop Smoke. I was not familiar with drill but I listen to a lot of Pop Smoke and have heard he kind of embraced the sound. I think the guy making a lot of his beats is British and he had Skepta on the Welcome to the Party remix

I was going to post this. Top verse by Kane there. Premier on the production as well.

I’m gonna post one track a day. Kick off with this…

Jay-Z phoning it in and Puff Daddy, is, well, he’s Puff Daddy, but it’s a good beat and this is my favourite Biggie verse of all time.

On second thoughts it’s gonna be too slow posting one track at a time, so I’m going to do themed posts instead.

Today’s theme: artists I have one track from because DJ Premier made a track for them. Nonstop A+ beats here. Everyone sounds good over Premier!

Get em in cuz I’m going ham on this thread this weekend.

Preemo would be my goat but Dilla just had more ability than anyone ever.

Boom still gets me hyped.

I love going to hip hop shows and make a point of trying to catch 1 or 2 a year. Motor City Casino has a venue called the Sound Board which is awesome. I saw one of the GOAT groups there just before COVID shut everything down, Bone Thugs N Harmony. Detroit local Trick Trick opened the show and when he started his set he had his weed guy pull up a table on stage and start rolling joints. Then started tossing them out into the crowd. Then Bone Thugs came out and crushed it, and had some young rappers with them too that I wish I knew who they were because god damn that was a good show. I was drunk and high as hell, fuck yeah. We have tickets to see Twista there and that show has now been pushed back about 42 times but I think it’s happening this fall.

And for my contribution, one of the GOAT collaborations out there:

Love Bone Thugs they’re definitely in my top 5 favorite groups. Never seen them live was the whole crew there?

I don’t think so, no. If I remember right Bizzy was not there. And I think another one showed up late. They had backup guys with them who were really good as well.
