Arnold is a big environmentalist, too. I didn’t follow his politics when he was governor, but looking at him now, it’s weird that he’s a Republican.
Arnold’s story (or at least the mythology of his story) is VERY much a boot straps / American Dream story. The kinds of narratives he drives fit well with 20th century Republican mythology around opportunity and achievement.

Exactly. Key word:20th century. Since 21st century GOP is all about racism and xenophobia, it makes sense that he doesn’t fit anymore.

I mean, he’s a giant immigrant success story so yeah not really consistent with the build a wall crowd.
I think it’s just a lot easier for a TV celebrity with no experience to get traction in the Republican Party than it would be with the Dems. This is probably the biggest reason why Trump didn’t run as a Democrat.
Arnold is also famously against partisanship. He was big into the independent redistricting process and elimination of partisan primaries.

If Trump won and went for a third time the obvious move would be to run Obama, but my second choice might be the following ticket:
The Rock/Arnold
I’d pay good money to see Trump debate The Rock. A combination of being physically imposing and the GOAT trash talker would make him the perfect opponent to decimate Trump in a debate.
At that point, given the immense cheating that would be taking place, completely emasculating Trump might be the only play.

Once upon a time conspiracy-curious Democrats completely freaked out because they thought the Republicans were plotting to remove the natural born citizen clause, in order to be able to elect Schwarzenegger as president.
