Welp, in-person classes announced for this fall for me.
But I’m also in Ohio and very interested in school funding issues. Public education funding is more complicated than that - it is largely funded by local property taxes. But Ohio guarantees a Free and Appropriate Public Education to everyone, so the state serves as a funding backstop for school districts where the property tax base is insufficient to provide a good education. The school district I’m in (Dublin) is relatively affluent, so it receives fairly small amounts of state funding. Rural and urban districts receive a ton of state funding.
I agree that the chart is kind of misleading because the funding situation is complicated. But I’m not sure there’s an obvious way to present it.
Also, there was another very large protest in Dublin yesterday, this time emphasizing educators protesting. It’s really hard to describe how unusual that is for this uber-white, uber-affluent area.
