That was a train wreck. Nik was completely hammered and insufferable by the end of the stream.
Rob yong was great. I wouldnt last 10 minutes there with all the fake laughs
Yeah - Rob kept things together, it wasn’t until he left that things truly went off the rails.
Could that final hand actually lead to some change? No one was comfortable with that. The chat, the players, the booth. Gross.
That was a brutal watch, even from the first moments before people were drunk. Polk (and a couple others) never shut the hell up and Lynne thinks everything she hears is the funniest thing ever. Usually it’s nice to have a mix of players, a couple that are quieter, but maybe have interesting stories, and then 2-3 more outgoing players that can drive table talk a bit more, but when Persson is one of the “quieter” players in the lineup, you’ve got issues.
Did anyone hear the discussion between Persson and Polk later in the stream? It was hard to hear with all the other chatter and I was mostly tuning everything out at that point. The gist was that, yah Polk is technically skilled, but he’s almost “too” skilled for live poker. They made it sound like he’ll never get invites into the good games, and for that, he’s pretty much capped as to what he can earn in poker. Persson made it sound like there are several guys making 8 figures, up to mid 8 figures in these games. He then asked Polk if he ever saw a way to making 8 million (I think that was the figure) in a year from just poker, and Polk admitted that no, it’d be impossible in the games he has access too.
That being said, it’s cool that HSP gave us this longstream and I hope we get more. S11 does sound like it’s gonna be an all-timer, from the way the hosts were talking about it. Salomon will be there, which pretty much ensures you’ll get some awesome lineups.
JRB origin story also good. … That’s what they called it and he said he wouldn’t deny it. Just watch the last 3 hands on the stream for all this.
Shows you how much variance there is. So many stories like this about a good run or one big tourney hit that sets people up for long term success. Never hear the opposite stories.
I feel you hear all the time about tourney players that bink a big score (or even a few) and then proceed to lose it all. Jamie Gold is the obvious example, but there are plenty of others (of the top of my head - Lindgren, Gus, Chino, Mizrachi, Matusow, etc.). You might not get the same level of detail since they often disappear from the poker community and who really likes to tell stories about people that have busted.
It does seem more rare to hear about cash game guys that bust, but that’s because they probably just never get as famous in the first place. Only one I can think of right now is Brad Booth, but that’s mostly just because he was in the news a few years ago for disappearing for a few months.
Who is Jungle supposed to be? I don’t get the reference
The last hand is legitimately one of the worst things I’ve ever seen in poker. Airball is awful for poker top to bottom. Just pure scum.
Mickey - although I have no clue which Mickey. Seems like a fighter so maybe Mickey Ward (accent sort of fits), but I don’t get the jacket in that context.
Phil short stack pro - flatting pre with jacks is super high level move when short stacking.
He’s a conman leading a small cult
Not quite Bryn Kenny level, but still. Plus he doesn’t even understand poker, yet charges people money to tell them word salads about nothing
Lol Phil plays 7% raise strategy short stack and loses. What a shock. He is legitimately one of the worst cash game players of all time. I wish there was a world I could bet he would be a loser in 1/3 over a real sample size.
He played like 10 hands.
He also started the stream by calling out handz for winning in their online home game. Thats a super douchey move that has to be very deliberate
Lol just watched the highlight reel and actually saw his hands. I guess the 7% makes sense but the play is actually worse than I imagined. He is just bad at poker.
there is nothing epic or sick or whatever term that poker players use to denote that nowadays about this hand. a super rich guy betting such a miniscule amount of his net worth that he cant even be bothered to stick around for the end is not really that interesting to me.
