Exactly. Think about the type of person you like to have at the table even if they’re a good player, then be like that at the table.
For me it was a semi-private game so anyone got one shot, but most good players couldn’t get a second. I played very loose in LP in single raised pots, made sure I showed some of the junk I was playing, was friendly to everyone but especially the guys organizing it. If they folded to me in a spot I’d never show cards, I’d show if they asked or even just toss them face down to that player and nod at them to peek. In the types of games you want to get into, nobody is enforcing show one show all when you give the whale a look.
I wasn’t kissing anyone’s ass outside of showing hands and such, just chatting them up about sports/travel/stocks/life and being a normal person conversationally.
And no backpack or shades or anything like that.
I also had a fake high level players card from the casino in question, and made sure to lock up my sear with it while getting chips.
yea this is the only “sus” thing here in my opinion is how these crushers end up in streamed games with twitch whales and the like who’ve never played the game at all.
surely dont doubt some funny business is going on there, but I truly doubt at this point it is outright cheating, because there would just be so many weird hands and other than this goofy J4o hand and some obvious signalling/softplay stuff I don’t see any overt “cheating” if you define cheating as having hole card info (I consider softplay a form of cheating but understand why it made be tolerated in a soft game).
my theory right now is we walked into a half dozen mini scams that have nothing to do with cheating and it’s kind of amusing watching everyone wildly try to tie pieces together in a grand conspiracy when much dumber explanations make far more sense. but w/e my opinion doesnt matter. just gonna be annoyed when inevitably no proof comes out and the theorists are gonna use that as evidence of cheating, somehow.
DGAF built that lineup himself I think. That’s his rolodex in action.
I think they were the Bad News Bears of cheating at poker and managed to get caught on one of their first handful of runs. Maybe Bryan has been at it longer, but Robbi and Rip only played a few times and this might have been literally their first session cheating.
Oh I think we did that too lol… I just think there’s still the cheating going on, and a bunch of scammers are getting the spotlight on them and going down.
this explanation works for so many things.
Kissing ass is def the wrong mentality in these games. They are boys club. Most games ive been to are extremely toxic and their fun is to needle each other and mostly the regs. To fit in you have to be able to handle it and fire back in just the right amount for them to like you but not to think youre patronizing.
At least in my experience you have to hit back a bit for them to enjoy it
a few times in joey’s podcast this has been brought up by guests who know what they’re talking about - for instance the monday fish game, players seem to be willing to risk chunks of cash for the exposure to their brand. it’s far cheaper to do that than pay for advertising. I think some of that is going on here, especially in how much robbi seems to love this spotlight and tries to blow it up at every opportunity.
sure I guess she could be a cheater AND be looking for attention but I don’t find it that odd that a woman with seemingly wealthy friends could end up in a game like this.
This x100, although in my game everyone gets needled relentlessly, it’s not focused on the winners.
Sure but winners need to answer back when its fun and shut up when the losers are really tilted. Losers get to go on at all times.
So its balancing how to be fun enough to play along with the nbz patent toxic masculinity while recognizing when you gotta shut up and take it
True. Great example. Two weeks ago one of our biggest losing players, who we needle for also sucking at sports betting and being super unlucky at it - the dude takes the worst sports betting beats I’ve ever seen, made a really bad (imo) bet on a 6-point dog. I needled him about it before the game started, and was about to when they were losing 28-3 at half, but he got felted and was annoyed and gathering his things so I didn’t do it.
Well, somehow they come back and not only cover but win outright. Fast forward to the next game, he doubled up initially and then bled it away and is now down to like 60% of his initial buyin, and he just lost his sports bet in a pretty gross fashion with a successful 2-point conversion being called back on an ineligible man downfield. We joked about how absurd it is to be ineligibly downfield when you’re starting from the 2-yardline, then someone asked him who he has next so they can fade him, a common needle, and he looks a bit annoyed and says that was his only game today.
So I chime in, “You know, I meant to tell you, I’ve gotta give you some credit. I was talking shit on that pick two weeks ago, but they came back and won after you left! Sick win, hope you got to watch it when you got home!”
That got a smile and he cheered up a bit and started joking about his perfect system for sports betting.
Gotta try to read those spots and know when to back off. You can also just turn the needle on the guy needling them and steer the conversation away from them in those spots.
Yeah this part is tough for me because I don’t like to tolerate that shit, but I’ve found that when they go too far over the line I can needle them for that and it’s my little way of pushing back on it while still being part of the needling fun. My favorite was when a reg who hadn’t had a girlfriend in years was being super misogynistic, I just waited for him to finish and said, “Man, I just can’t believe you can’t find a girlfriend!”
maybe i’m misreading but I dont interpret anything nbz says or posts about as toxic masculinity, in fact, it seems like he rails against that attitude a lot? unless that’s what you were saying and i misread it
Yeah its a joke.
lol my bad
looooool why do these people keep talking
I’m telling you, if Perkins offered a $250K bounty for shutting the fuck up, none of them would be capable of doing it!
I’m trying to learn more about it because I don’t trust the shit people spout gleefully as fact in this saga, but I know that the holecard viewer software can generate an external link that can be used to view the stream live by anyone with access to this link. this makes the attack surface WAY bigger in my opinion.
Given what I’ve seen working on security problems in a world where people SHOULD know what they’re doing, but still open themselves to gnarly attacks regularly, makes me think a bunch of people with zero tech knowledge clicking buttons to make a production like this probably were doing tons of insanely insecure things. for instance, almost zero people should have administrative access to any of that stuff, but what happens in the real world is people share passwords to get stuff done faster or give out overly broad permissions for the same reason.
it makes cheating far more likely for sure.
Yup - it seems pretty clear at this point HCL had pretty much no security features in place. Like Nick said they had a rule of no cell phones in the production room, but he also admitted they didn’t search people and allowed people to bring in bags if they wanted. Also, people were allowed to have laptops in production which also allow you to send signals.
