I realize it’s silly trying to find logic in anything Mikki does, but it’s weird that he’s begging to do PLO flips for his stack, but then is generally kinda nitty preflop. Like he just called a raise with AK and had several other spots with pretty solid pairs where he could’ve ripped it in, but just elects to call.
Anyway, JRB was raving about how fun this was, even before he started crushing, and it seems like a lot of these games revolve around him, so I think there’s a good chance we see more awesome lineups soon. Only negative is I think he has veto power and won’t allow anyone competent in the lineup. It would be interesting to see 1-2 elite pros and how they navigate these fields. I guess JR is pretty good, but the rest are just nits or droolers.
FU to PokerGO. Hustler and Triton are giving us pure gold for free and PG’s trying to charge us for No Gamble, No Future.

Seems like an attack the messenger strat as Kessler’s complaints seem legit. The rake is damn high (is it now standard for dealers to get paid for prize pool rather than to get a portion of fees) and doing a best stack while paying people they double bag seems terrible and rife for collusion.
Yes, it is common to see a staff fee taken out of the prize pool as an auto-gratuity. 5% is rather large. I’m used to seeing 2-3%.
Rake is only going to go up on tournaments because they are no longer used as a loss leader. The increase in poker-only and especially tournament-only gamblers is a problem when a tournament series has to justify itself as independently profitable. It’s publicly listed, so players can choose to play or not.
A notable poker pro once told me at a table that Allen Kessler won’t be very critical of WSOP on Twitter because he gets something from them. I would not be surprised if it’s been suggested by other people to the iNinja people that Kessler wouldn’t be as loud if he was getting something and they’ve chosen to react this way.
of course kessler does that, wouldn’t you? from what I gather he’s dearly beloved in the community
tbh i don’t understand the concept of professional MTT players at all really, seems like the variance is so massive that you’ll likely never see the “long run” whatever that is or be properly rolled for it. I mostly play MTT’s and SNG’s but that’s only because they’re the most exciting to me and therefore the most fun.
I’m right there with you. Tournaments are a fun aside. I play a lot of them, but it’s the cash games that pay for them. If I wasn’t winning enough at cash to skim off tournament entries, looking for a windfall, I couldn’t justify playing tournaments except as part of an entertainment budget. I just assume all “tournament pros” are delusional.
