Poker Hands and Strategy

A couple years ago I made a deep run in the 1K PLO with 2 other guys in my 10/25 game. We all finished top 50 out of a field of ~1100 players. I finished highest with 25th.

lol someone hit the doomswitch on on me in my HU tourney. Lost in round 4 to the most passive, face-up player ever (I think he 3-bet…um…twice?) because he managed to river or cooler me every time I had a “big” hand.

two-pair vs. straight, check. overpair vs. set? check. Set over set? check. flopped trips vs. running flush? check. He was so passive that none of those broke me, but I couldn’t survive KK losing to his rivered 2 pair. Oh well, the payout structure was decent enough that making the top 8 wasn’t terrible money.

Right, I’m aware of the PLO bots botnetting people but 2 things:

  1. This isn’t 6max PLO

  2. It’s way, way, waaay worse than any of their graphs.

Yea that’s legit the craziest graph I’ve ever seen.

Let’s see that red line!

Playing online just makes it clear how a lot of my live game is based off of establishing a tight table image, then exploiting that image. I can’t seem to bluff someone by repping a slow-play and lowering the boom with a half-pot bet on the river to get them to fold top pair. When I get back to live poker, I’m going to have to re-adjust and not value-bet so thinly against typical opponents.

Playing online poker makes it clear to me that I’m going to destroy valuable items in the near future when every shove late in a tourney has 71% equity and loses EVERY GOD DAMNED MOTHERFUCKING TIME. FUCCCCCCCCCK ONLINE MTTs.

Anyone on GGPoker? I signed up an account so I could play a couple WSOP PLO events and I’m debating if it’s worth continuing on the site after that in PLO cash games.

From what I hear, rake is extremely high, and they have a PVI (player value index I think) system that screws winning players out of rakeback/rewards. Some grinders are being credited as low as 20% of their rightful rake contributed. I multi-table midstakes PLO and often pay as much as 5-6k/week in rake, so that’d be a big deal to me losing so much deserved rakeback. Games could be good w/WSOP coming up, but I doubt they’re better than PokerBros/app games.

No on deserves rakeback.

I’m on GG, but I wouldn’t be any help as I’m playing tournaments exclusively. They dropped their tournament rake to 8% when the stay at home orders were first issued, which I thought was quite reasonable.

I’ve heard the same thing as you about their cash game rake. If you have access to all the licensed sites, I think Party would be the best of a number of not great options.

I’d tend to agree if they didn’t rake a couple hundred K a year from me. Easy for the casuals who only occasionally pop in to say that the people keeping the sites running don’t deserve rewards.

I think a subscription model for poker sites would be much fairer. You don’t need to be raking close to the same absurd amounts (sometimes more) that casinos do.

$9.99/mo. - Casual player model
$29.99/mo. - Intermediate player model
$199.99/mo. - Advanced player model, can play unlimited hands/tables per month

Maybe the prices are off a bit, but you get the idea. Keep it cheap for people just wanting to pop in every now and then and add costlier tiers if you want access to multi-tabling and higher stakes.

That was what Dutch Boyd was trying to get off the ground back in 2003 with rakefree.com. From the operator’s perspective, there’s so much more money to be made with the traditional model that I’m not surprised it never got any traction, either with Dutch or someone else. People are greedy.

20% is not bad at all these days. Got an offer on stars this month for $3200 when I rake 8k, probably get ~1500ish in chests on the way.

Anyone not playing the Bovada Milly definitely hates money. The biggest gtd tourneys on there typically feature completely absurd plays early on when everyone is deep. I think the last main event, I saw someone overcall a 150bb 5b shove with 34s.
