Poker Hands and Strategy

Ok I was going to come in here and ask if calling an open shove with 66 was right but I missed the 1600 ante, is that number right @suzzer99? If so then yeah I think it’s a fairly easy call but I’m more curious if antes are actually just like 200 since it seems like this is a flip at best.

Yeah it’s 1600 BB ante. So there’s 4k in dead money out there including my 800.

There’s a slight chance it may have still been 600/1200-1200 and I’m remembering it wrong.

I finally broke my ~40 buyin no cash streak with a min-cash. Not sure how to feel about it.

I did have a fun hand where I made it 11k out of my 90k stack at 2500/5000-5000 from EP with AKs at a new table. CO reraised to 36k. I gave a sick/queasy look, grumbled a bit, then shoved for about 80k - giving him like 44k to call into a ~145k pot. Would have been almost all his chips. I guess my speech-shove worked because he folded.

Here’s a hand. Bike $150 tourney.

Hero raises 3600 out of 29k UTG with AsJs at 800/1600-1600 blinds. UTG+1 calls, CO (tight old guy who open-shoved TT on a T22 flop) calls, BTN (very bad splashy/aggressive - playing almost ATC and getting there) calls.

Flop Ad9s5h - hero bets 5k. UTG+1 folds, CO calls, BTN calls.

Maybe check flop? Checking through on flop was happening a lot. So I’m not sure I could count on BTN to bet.

Turn 8d - hero checks to induce BTN to bluff and/or pot control(?). Old guy shoves. BTN folds.

I tell old guy I’ll show if he does. He resists at first then says ok if you want to play it that way. I go with my ChrisV read and fold.

He shows AcJc. But I think it was probably still a good fold as I hit the bottom of his range. But I didn’t really think about how my turn check would induce him to think his ace is good. So maybe it’s a call?

Good fold, wp overall given reads.

Anyone playing on the apps these days (Pokerbros/ppp)? Games are massively massively better than most other online games. They play more like live games without having to drive anywhere or dealing with the actual people who populate the poker rooms.

Are these iphone apps for real money games you are talking about?

Yup real money. I am not an agent but you basically need an agent of a club that you are playing in to handle all the deposits/withdraws. Usually that is done via btc.

That sounds pretty interesting, thanks! I am thinking about getting back into playing some online games again and not really sure what options are out there. What does ppp stand for? I’ll look into them when I have some time.

As far as I know there are basically two apps you can play on. One is called PokerBros and one is called PPPoker. Each app has several different “clubs” which offer real money games. My personal opinion is that PokerBros is the better of the two apps but others may have a different opinion.

I know people who do, but I don’t know any agents who I trust.

Ya that’s a real risk you take. Have definitely been some people run off with the $$$.

The app is technically a play money app, I believe, and they use an Asian model where an agent collects money from players and delivers payouts. Think of it as playing on credit while escrowing money with an agent. Some poker clubs have gone broke due to agents doing things like extending credit to fish or absconding with funds.

Thanks, good to know! I think probably a little more risk than I can take on at the moment, so will look into other options.

I don’t play a lot of tournaments but I probably play it differently. At that stack preflop I think is jam or min-raise. Preflop sizing in tournaments is weird, but I’ve had just as much success with a pure min-raise as I have with these weird 1.2X raises. No point in raising more than necessary.

When you get this much action preflop in EP with AJ, it’s going to be a bumpy ride, especially on an A high flop where your opponents will have all the AQ. It’s a super dry flop so I probably check it and see what develops. Getting it checked through is not a disaster here. You’re WA/WB so a passive line is fine.

As played, the turn is really read dependent. Against most opponents I’m just closing my eyes and shoving. There are certainly players where I would have a strong enough read to x/f against. It’s your read, so going with it is fine.

Apps are interesting for sure. The Iggy games are soft enough that I haven’t looked closely at them but I may eventually

I knowingly committed a massive case of potential ICM suicide.

$400 buy-in. min-cash is only 670 and I didn’t come here to min-cash. On the bubble. Blinds at 6k/12k. Folded to me in the SB with 70k behind. I shove blind against a BB who has about 200k and has been playing too tight.

Tell me how bad it was before I give results. I would totally post this if villain folded.

haha I’ll actually wait to hear what someone else who knows what they are talking about weigh in. I was just curious how it played out.
