Two things: Louis made a good point that some times people are trying to keep some personal info separate from their main account. That definitely happened a few times on 2p2. Another is: we can not stop this. ZZ posted a picture of Barbara Streisand’s house. I dunno if that’s what he meant, but if outlawing multiaccounting becomes a big thing around here we’re just inviting trolls to work harder and they won’t lose that battle.
Small minds are interested in people, medium minds in events and galactic brains in ideas or some such. If Arby is not an internet friend or enemy, I don’t care about them either way. If he said something really interesting, I’d look at that.
Supergalactic minds are interested in all three.
I’ve kind of lost track of what’s happening so I’m not going to make a poll right now. My own opinion is that @Arbytoras is so bad that he should be outed and all accounts banned (really hope it’s not a microbet gimmick).
+1 to this
I don’t gimmick. Well, I had two special purpose/joke gimmicks over the many years on 2p2 with maybe 20 posts total.
Dear Internet Friend,
I’m talking about whether they are my internet friend or enemy. I decide it based on whether or not I like them.
Hello arkman. Welcome!
I was going to say that having some sort of policy/protocol disallowing multiple-accounts means that someone (mods, admin) will be tasked with checking posters’ IP addresses for this purpose. Generally speaking I am against that.
When you say “know” I guess you mean “like”? I don’t like or hate randoms. I guess I lean towards like, but not much. How someone becomes non-random? Maybe I am following some conversation they are part of so I read their posts. Maybe they directly address me. I’ll usually skip over a lot of posts for a while though before someone becomes someone I am likely to read. I imagine this is the same for most everyone. I’ve broken into new forums/sub-forums before and I get that it’s not easy to get to where anyone is reading your posts.
Think we can all agree that Arby should score that sweet Biden flair no matter what happens to him in the end
Thanks for agreeing with me wise new comer with the cool name.
Well if @Arbytoras has nothing to say then I’ll try to froth up a mob to ban him and any future accounts tomorrow.
Feels a tad rude that @tabbaker started much of this and then disappeared. If he has anything to say that would be helpful too.
Fair.
Wait, so how are you guys getting so many likes on your posts?
Not sure I agree completely. People can be petty and unreasonable and judgemental. People can be vindictive and hold grudges. People also constantly change and grow (in theory). What harm does it do to allow somebody to have a clean slate if they want one?
I’m imagining a scenario where somebody realizes he has cultivated an online persona that’s abrasive and unreasonable, perhaps somewhat thin-skinned. If he thinks the baggage of his past posting can’t be overcome but wants to make a good-faith effort at changing his ways, why shouldn’t he be permitted to retire the old account and create a new one rather than be forced to try and rehabilitate the old one?
On the other hand, bad posters typically have no self-awareness, no potential for growth, and no shame, so maybe my scenario of a “good-faith” desire for re-invention is unlikely to the point of being safely ignored.
There’s also the scenario mentioned above where somebody might want to post something very personal (e.g., in the Mental Health thread) that they don’t want associated with their main account. I don’t think this should be discouraged.
Go through my posts my statements on the subject have been made thank you for outreach.
Whose gimmick is Rivaldo?
Not necessary. They’ll be found out eventually if they’re trolling.
I’m having a problem doing this because his profile is set to private and I can’t easily search for all of his posts.
Agreed. Doxing should be zero tolerance. It can literally be life and death for some people.
