Yes! This works nationally, too. I’ll be texting people in Iowa for volunteer recruiting and I’ll get responses, “oh I don’t live in IA anymore.” It’s a great counter to improvise and come back with “hey I don’t live in IA either and that’s not stopping me!” It works.

Did first ever text banking today. It was a little confusing since you have to set up multiple accounts and it’s not clear how everything works together. Also there are multiple paths to the same end with (it seemed to me) not entirely consistent instructions. Had never used slack or zoom or Thrutext.

There were issues with Thrutext that people were complaining about. It recalled disappearing buttons stuff from online poker, lol. It also seemed like identical names appeared in the list for some reason.

The response rate was pretty low. Got like 6/300 responses. Three of those were people asking to opt out. Three had already voted. One person seemed very engaged with the election and very nice with expansive responses.

Overall :+1:

I’m currently texting for Julie Oliver and let me tell you, there is no way that these efforts DON’T make a difference. I just got several new people interested in volunteering, a couple from out of state. Lots of people who already voted, and a few who have a plan to so. A couple who wanted more information on Julie or had never heard of her. Overall a very positive batch.

The supreme court situation crushed me yesterday. Trumps hinting at his desire to steal the election yesterday crushed me. Texting for a progressive and getting an overwhelmingly positive response uncrushed me.

Go volunteer. We have 1 week left.

The one voter you flip makes up for 20 opt out messages or hangups in a row.

Yang appearance! Haha

If you haven’t texted in a while, this might be a good time to get plugged back in.

The Biden campaign has a lot of good GOTV assignments right now. I just had several good conversations with voters in GA, and a lot of them were interested in volunteering.

Got my friend who’s a lawyer in TX to sign up the other day to do pro bono election work as needed, not sure if he’s heard back yet - but he’s not the activist type, so this feels like a big deal to get him willing to be involved.

Waiting to get more info from someone with the Oliver campaign to text bank for her, Biden campaign basically rejected me today because I hadn’t registered my ThruText account in time or whatever. Didn’t know there was a deadline and let it sit too long.

GJGE Biden campaign. :man_facepalming:

Seems like Pennsylvania is getting tons of GOTV effort, though. I’m still knocking doors Sun/Tue.

Yeah I fucked up on that, but it seems silly to cut that off. I can see not training new people at this point, but my procrastination aside I am still already trained and available to text bank today and Monday.

Finishing up my shift with Julie Oliver, just have a few people left who I’m waiting on for answers. Got a few people to sign up for phone banks, it seems like at this stage it’s mostly like vols texting vols to make sure they are signed up, and then patting ourselves on the back for all being awesome lol… Kind of a weird situation where it feels like we’re just tying up loose ends with people who are already doing stuff.

I’m sure it amplifies volunteering though.

I did my first ever phone banking just now for New Hampshire. Completely terrifying for the first 10-15 minutes, felt pretty good after that, we completely emptied the call queue. Best response was a woman singing me “Wild Horses”, that they couldn’t drag her away from the polls.

Just saw a couple canvassers next door, went to check my mail as an excuse to cheer them on. Told them I textbanked for Julie Oliver today, and the guy said he’s been wanting to do some texts/calls for Texas and he’ll check her out!

51 and pouring rain? I must have a couple canvassing shifts.

I’m telling myself this is good because our side is more motivated to knock doors despite the rain.

It’s fine. If you are part of having PA be a slam dunk victory, it will help me because calling the presidential race early will depress Republican turnout here, which is good for our race!

I got an apartment building with 18 doors, almost a third of my doors.

Brag: No rain
Beat: Indoor air in the age of COVID
Variance: Could be outdoor hallways, covered or not.
