And if you’re going to go from one place to another it’s a million times better to see what there is along the way up close than from a distance from your floating hotel.

You accepted a bigoted work environment (I should say, a work environment whose bigotry was enshrined in official policy). I’m sure you had your reasons, but do you want a medal? If you could have chosen, would you have changed that policy?

You don’t need to be on a boat to look at the ocean. And you don’t need to be in a crowded, cramped petri dish to take a boat ride.

Devil’s advocate here though…a cruise is a convenient way to store your stuff while you look around the places you stop and you don’t have to pack up and find new places to stay every so often if you’re travelling.

But you don’t get to look around the places you stop. You get closely chaperoned through a sanitized tourist trap.

In most places in the US you have to cover your genitals, but that’s it as far as the police doing anything to you because of the way you’re dressed. You’re never free to have everyone like you. Freedom is about whether or not the police are going to hit you in the head with a baton.

The Petri dish angle is silly. It’s like saying flying is a death wish. A very small number of people get ill. In fact, I remember reading once you are far more likely to get norovirus on land than on a cruise.

Not my cup of tea either, but it is convenient that you keep most of your stuff in a moving hotel room.

That’s real progress. I would have for sure assumed you were still a cruise guy. Who knows, maybe we’ll get an Alinea TR from you some day?

That sounds like I might like it. A conventional cruise with a bunch of deplorables sounds like hell to me.

I need money like everyone so I can be bought, but if I am ever going to work for someone else again, a dress code will have to be compensated for with a pretty fair amount of money.

You seem oddly sympathetic with “You’re not a grown-up, you’ll wear what I say”, though.

It’s how many people try to pretend they don’t care about image.

Sweden practiced eugenics until 1975

That and Switzerland hiding gold for Nazis are things you can bring up when they’re all holier than thou about being neutral and not fighting in wars and shit.

I wear very bland ordinary clothes…so…maybe. I dunno. I hate men’s business clothes.

When I first read this I thought “bs” but holy fuck if it’s not true!

Yeah, we, uh, we don’t tend to cast too much shade on people vis-a-vis the whole ‘being neutral’ thing, honestly :grimacing:

Also, I would not freak out if one of my daughters came to me with a dude dressed exactly as you described.

If you’re visiting a city, which represents maybe half the stops, most people are not closely chaperoned. The downtowns of cruise stops are usually tourist traps, but unsanitized versions set up by the locals.

Yeah but you didn’t let the Nazis use your railways to access Norway and Denmark in exchange for not fighting against the Nazis early in WW2.

So yeah everybody’s got their hands dirty. Only time I got holier than thou shit was in Switzerland. Once I brought up Nazi gold, I was no longer welcome at the board game club.
