They don’t give a shit about the wall or taxes no matter what they say. It’s being able to say Merry Christmas, keeping “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance, and changing Mr. Potato Head that drives them to the polls. That’s the stuff that triggers deplorables most.

Questions about senate rules.

To pass something through reconciliation, do you need a majority of senators or just a majority of senators that vote? For example, would something pass 49-48 with 3 abstentions. Same question for confirmations.

Does VP break all ties or just 50-50 ties? If something is 48-48 with 4 abstentions, does it just not pass, or does VP get to make a tie-breaking vote to pass/not pass?
