The discourse helper was like “are you sure you want to bump this thread” and I was like “discourse helper I will whip your ass” and that settled that.
In pro sports people are so used to hyperbole and/or speaking in relative terms, this or that player is trash and terrible, but the worst player to ever play in the NBA is one of the best of the best elite players to ever walk the planet. So “pretty good” is just, eh, decent, not bad.
Also, in the context of that thread I was trying to convey how boxing drills are fun and a great workout.

As for boxing, the barrier to entry is pretty low if you want to be beat up by prospects for a living. Not like you have to be drafted into a league with a limited amount of roster spots.
But the fact that he fought 300 times probably puts him above the countless fighters who did it once or twice, didn’t win and decided it wasn’t for them. I mean there are over 350,000 fighters documented in BoxRec. I wager that the vast majority haven’t fought more than twice and large portion don’t have a single win.
I suppose what constitutes a good boxer is based on how large your range is. In 2017, there were 6.53 million people aged six and older who participated in boxing in America. If you define your range of boxers as everybody who participated at least once in a boxing match at a pro or amateur level, then yeah a guy who loses 280 times is pretty high level. But that’s equal to evaluating pro baseball players by comparing them to kids in T-ball leagues.

Can’t forget when the Georgetown Hoyas went to play Bayi Rockets in Beijing.
Game was fixed with the refs clearly paid off and the Hoyas were still winning. Scumbag Rockets decided to stomp the shit out of university underclassmen.

Interesting. I initially thought it was because they are historically the most successful basketball team in the league and them having foreign players would be a disadvantage. I mean the CBL prevents them from having foreign players while the other teams get a maximum of two on their roster.
Another reason could be that the team is run by the Chinese armed forces.
Wiki says they became the worst team in the league and folded. Even Chinese dynasties don’t last forever.

Yup. The army just couldn’t field a competent basketball once those pesky foreigners got involved.
Funny story is that Stephon Marbury basically became a legend in the CBA. He’s now the head coach of the Beijing Royal Fighters after playing in the league for nearly a decade.
