Watching people blame turbines for freezing when the developers were just too cheap to apply deicer like they do literally everywhere else is irritating. Also seeing a bunch of pro nuclear heads popping out saying “SEE THIS IS WHY WE NEED NUCLEAR”. When I see this as a perfect example of how nuclear is entirely too risky in a Capitalist society. Corners will always be cut when there is a dollar to be saved.

Fun fact - FERC wrote a warning paper in 2011 about this same potential issue.

Can the wind farm industry sue FNC and Tucker Carlson like Dominion did?

Are people just…going in their garages and turning on their cars?

Yeah it’s a lot of this, but I’m sure someone is taking a nap in their running car in the garage.

That’s almost as dumb as people with no AC trying to cool their kitchen by leaving the refrigerator door open

Uncouth knaves, the 3rd law of thermodynamics is not so easily thwarted

This happens in the north sometimes too. Seen lots of various stupid things like this.

They would have to show Fox cost them business, which Dominion said was happening to them.

Yeah its 100% propane grills and stuff like that.

Not 100%, have heard of of people using charcoal grills.

Malfunctioning furnaces (which would probably be common in Texas since they aren’t used as often, BUT a lot of people won’t be using since they don’t have power) and running a generator inside are pretty common too

Are the businesses (or even the rare individuals) with backup generators in TX also fucked? Generally, the generators run off of the gas line, but if they are having problems with gas, then even having a backup generator would not help. Anyone know for sure?

Most generators I’ve seen run off gasoline or diesel.

Running a generator inside will kill you faster than a car in the garage, those things are dirty.

When I moved into a shared, off-campus apartment sophmore year, my parents helped me move in. We were on the 2nd floor and had a balcony, so I brought up our old Hibachi to put out there.

Before my parents left my dad reminded me not to grill inside the apartment.

Our generator for our house is hooked up directly to our gas line. The few time the power has gone out here the generator kicks in automatically. If both electrical and gas service were cut we’d be screwed thought.

Yes, but most of the time there is a dedicated gas line from the utility company that the generator is hooked up to. If the gas supply is disrupted, then the generator won’t work. I’ve never heard of someone with a back up generator that had their own tank of gas on the property to run it. I suppose if someone had something like that they would be fine until the tank ran out.

Nice. Thanks, SCOTUS.

People in Texas generally don’t have natural gas utility service, that’s why they use propane or electric.

So what do people in TX with gas stoves inside their houses use?
