Yes it is definitely cold enough to kill people who don’t have the proper clothing or the mental ability to take care of themselves. You will 100% be seeing stories about people found dead in their homes over the next few days.
Roads are currently traversable for 2WD vehicles (in DFW). The trouble is the grid. 30% of the grid is offline, including all the wind power in panhandle. Power was diverted from manufacturing over the weekend and prioritized for residential but there is still a huge gap apparently.
Shit after I saw that video from I believe DFW no fucking chance I get anywhere near a road right now.
Was that video posted ITT? It was kind of traumatizing if you’ve ever been in an accident.
Also could the national guard help? Don’t they have engineers who can set up like massive mobile power grids?
I don’t understand the power issues. afaik electric heat is rare there. I think every single house and apartment I lived in in Texas over 20 years had gas. And most rural areas had propane.
The next shoe to drop will be the announcement that unleaded gasoline is completely tapped. I have a Subaru Outback and did some recon this morning. The QT alarms were going full blast with empty tank warnings. Also, Fort Worth has a boil water notice in effect due to a water treatment facility failure last night.
I agree. There is an issue with natural gas availability. I don’t remember the reason but I think the cold temperatures knocked facilities offline.
I read something like natural gas shipments being fucked because of the roads as well, plus the heating in most houses not really being up to handling this weather. That’s just random stuff off reddit though.
I know my uncles ranch is all electrical heating.
the message there is clearly don’t protest.
and the both-sides post-truth there is also lame. not sure who the sides in the discussion are the tweeters or police/protesters, but still lol.
Where is there ranch located? We can chat about an exfil offline if needed. I only have a 200 mile range at this point though.
Gas furnaces need power right?
Hidin’.
Yeah, but what is causing the power shortage?
eta: usually. Older furnaces have a continuous pilot light.

Standard shitty headline poorly telling half the story. God CNN is awful.
“The ability of some companies that generate the power has been frozen. This includes the natural gas & coal generators,” Abbott wrote
Now I have an answer.
Agree but I took it to mean the power generating infrastructure isn’t hardened to these conditions so is having trouble staying at full capacity.
I’d rather live in a tiny house than a huge apartment.
That’s a great point about National Guard. But, this is Greg Abbott we’re talking about. So I have no idea whether he will activate guard and deliver mobile power or whether we’ll just need to bootstrap ourselves like usual.
If nothing else, it’s comforting to see Texas prove that global warming is a myth.
