One of the most fun courses I ever took was an astronomy lab in junior college, and we had access to these massive telescopes. Seeing saturn and jupiter and the moon in great detail with your own eyes is a great experience. To people several hundred years ago it must have been absolutely mind blowing. To the naked eye they just look like bright stars but then they have all this detail.
Nebulae are also very cool. Fuck, i’m totally buying a telescope in my future.
This is something I keep planning to treat myself to, but I live in a city, so cloud cover and light pollution are fairly bad. Then I think about how often I’d realistically get out to the country, where it would be genuinely worthwhile, and how many times would I do that and it would just be cloudy anyway?
But anyway, I’ll read any TR you might have if you do end up getting one.
I spotted this on my neighborhood walk today and was going to post in the “photo of where you are” thread but with all the telescope talk maybe it belongs here instead.
Alert: I got tired of the Christmas reference in the thread title, and never understood the other part, so I changed it. Hope it’s tolerable for folks.
