Non-Political Ranting: Unleash Your Anger ITT

Surgery went well, says the surgeon. I guess the proof will be how well it heals and how much the leg feels back to normal after some rehab which is still a few months away. I regret breaking the leg, but don’t regret the surgery at this point. Again, we’ll see how it does long term. Pain is not really too bad, but it’s a little early and I’'m doing percocets every six hours. No memory of surgeon talking to me after the operation, but I will see him next week. I think I have a brace outside the bone and some screws inside. Maybe I can set off some metal detectors at the airport now.

Are screws like that the kind that would fly out in an mri? I wonder about that.

They’re generally mri safe because they’re a titanium alloy of some sort

God Melk you’re the worst. Thanks for your input

LOL CN.

This was the weirdest conversation. You extol the virtues of orthopedic surgeons and how competitive the whole process is to even become one and how rigorous the training is. I basically agree with you and then you decide to die on podiatry hill. GJGE.

Those same things apply to podiatrists

Come on, man. You should know this. We’re comparing them to each other. Which is more competitive? The process of becoming an orthopedic surgeon or the process of becoming a podiatrist.

If you’re still having problems, simply answer the question I asked earlier:

Once you’ve worked out the answer, try to think about why that is.

Which one does more foot and ankle surgery?

The ortho guys I work with all dump their foot and ankle stuff to podiatry. they’re really good at it, it’s all they do

Well it depends on what you’re counting. If you’re gonna throw in shit like dealing with ingrown toenails as “foot surgery”, then that’s going to change things. But if we’re talking about the kind of injury that inspired this question, then I would say that an orthopedic surgeon who has done a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery and specializes in foot and ankle surgery will have more experience doing those surgeries and better training (including more complex cases) than the average podiatrist that does those surgeries.

Now how about you answer my question?

So the NFL and NBA should be knocking down the doors of these foot and ankle wizards for all of their surgical needs? Is that the case?

Out of curiosity, how many of your ortho guys who are dumping on the podiatrists did foot and ankle fellowships?

I’ve taken a long break from this but recently dipped my toe back in my far right white nationalist feeds I’d been monitoring pre-2020 and apparently they’ve appropriated the slogan “black garbage bags matter” and I’ll just let you figure out what that means for the ongoing lynching situation going on in parts of the country that never stopped and will get worse. No wonder black people are terrified.

I’m working on a website outing people that post racist shit online in my spare time and it gives me enough peace that I can reasonably have. for now, nazism is still unacceptable for businesses

One of the few good memories of 6th grade was showing off the metal pins in my arm after I broke it in two places and fucked up my shoulder in a skiing fall.

You do know that not all podiatrists are podiatric surgeons, right? Podiatric surgeons specialize in foot and ankle surgery. It’s literally what they do. It’s in their title.

Looks like podiatrists work with pro teams all the time, Lebron specifically had a podiatrist he saw.

But keep JAQing off

Yes, I know that.

You might want to explain it to CN. It seems he wants to talk about LeBron seeing a podiatrist rather than having surgery done by a podiatrist.

You do realize there is a difference between being “seen” by a podiatrist and being operated on by a podiatrist which is what we are talking about. For example, I’ve been seen by a podiatrist a couple of times in the last year. Zero surgeries were performed. You do understand that’s possible, right?

You could just answer the question that you keep dodging. But for some reason you won’t. Let’s try another one:

So, did this podiatrist operate on LeBron?

Actually if you could link the source that would be great too. I’m sure he saw one, I’d just like to read about it further.

Seems like they were doing procedures to melk. You specifically jaqed off about it. Seems like they actually do this kind of thing!

I can’t tell if you’re conflating surgeries and procedures because you’re ignorant, or you being disingenuous. I’m gonna go ahead and assume ignorance. You understand that something like a steroid injection is a “procedure” but it is not a “surgery”

So what surgery was performed?

No melk I’m not. Seems like they do. Feel free to look into it yourself

Yeah you are.

And I already have, which is why this is so easy.

To help you further, since I obviously made a mistake of giving you way more credit for knowing stuff than I should, here’s a link to a place that has a fellowship for orthopedic surgeons in foot and ankle surgery. Notice that they specifically distinguish “surgery” and “procedure”. I really thought this should have been something you would know. My mistake. I even bolded the relevant words for you. You’re welcome.

But if you want to keep confusing the two, go right ahead!

So to summarize

Melk: So how many podiatrists do surgeries on pro athletes’ ankles?
CN: LeBron saw one. And podiatrists do a lot of procedures on pro athletes
Melk: You realize that “procedures” and “surgeries” aren’t the same thing
CN: Yeah I do
Melk: So why do you keep talking about “procedures” when I keep asking about “surgeries”
CN: Let’s just stop talking about this

Good talk.
