Just got a fun letter from my HOA threatening putting me in escrow for not paying my HOA fees. Turns out they changed their bank’s address (not the first time) so my auto bill pay has been going into a black hole. BofA of course shows the check as cleared, money taken out of my account.
Possibly they mentioned the address change buried in one of their 5-10 voluminous emails each month filled with meeting minutes and earthquake preparedness boilerplate and all kinds of other stuff I don’t care about. Wouldn’t want to be proactive and send out a special email with the subject line like: “IMPORTANT: We are changing our bank’s address!” No, I might actually notice that.
The fun part is I also already paid my October assessment as well. So now instead of $528 going into a black hole. I have $1056 in a black hole somewhere.
Never ever ever ever ever ever pay bills early kids. That’s the lesson.
When California killed the red light cameras, all outstanding cases were dismissed. So even if you had a warrant for not paying your red light fine, you were dismissed with no fine and no points on your license. But anyone who had already paid their fine was not refunded and their points were not reinstated on their license.
Never pay anything until the last possible second. You never know.
I had dinner with some friends last night, and we talked about a local charity running an auction with some neat items.
It made me think back 14 years. I was at an auction fundraiser for a Wildlife Rehab center in Maine. That place had a non-releasable albino porcupine named Edna. Someone donated this full sized portrait painting of her. I bid $400, and once it went higher decided I couldn’t spend any more on it.
I’m so angry at myself, I could have had this beauty hanging for decades. All I have is a crummy photograph.
Is there a doctor in the house? I broke my fibula about a month ago. I’m scheduled for surgery tomorrow to have rod and plates inserted to aid in healing and prevent arthritis down the road. Surgeon has a family emergency and is leaving town tonight. Backup plan is inexperienced young surgeon. I don’t have a super long window to get this done as break is slightly displaced but still healing. Could switch to orthopedic surgeon but they would want to see me first and start the process over, causing further delays. My thought is just get it done tomorrow with Doogie Howser and keep fingers crossed. But I don’t know. Doctor’s office says they’ve never had this happen before. Ugh.
He has no online reviews. He’s probably around 28 or so. And I agree younger more recently trained guy could be a good thing. He was on my case when they thought it was a sprain, but then xrays showed the break and they gave my case to the more experienced guy. He seemed kind of like he felt he was being dissed by his colleagues. Despite all that, I’ve had two opinions and they both say 100% get the surgery. So I guess we’ll just go for it. Other thing is that I have virtually no pain with the walking boot or even when I’m not wearing it. Not looking forward to a lot of pain where there wasn’t much before, but I guess the plates will cause some trauma to the bone or whatever, and that will hurt.
@Chippa58 any ortho surgeon is going to have at least 5 years of surgical experience, most likely 7-10, from residency alone. They are in one of the most competitive specialties there is, the vast, vast majority of them are great.
Thanks. These guys are both surgeons who work for a podiatry practice. I’m going to talk to him later today. I don’t see where I have much choice. Hopefully he feels confident. It’s been five weeks now since I broke it, so I’m a bit concerned they didn’t do it sooner, but they’re the experts. The first week was my fault because I didn’t know it was broken. Thought it was just sprained. We’ll go for it, and see how it turns out.
