I’m treating someone now who does clinical research trials, and he claims it’s not a good time to be looking for a job. His perception is that drug companies over-hired during COVID and now are realizing they have more people on payroll than they need.
Yeah it seems to be the case all around. Not to mention the majority of large comoanies are still gearing up for a possible recession.
Anectodal evidence from my own experience and friends’ experiences tell me that the white collar job market is pretty rough right now
I don’t think this qualifies as political, but I suppose it could be. posting it anyway.
A left-leaning non-profit is having their annual awards dinner/gala here in San Diego. I go to a lot of these, and they are usually at a downtown hotel. All of these places charge like $50 for parking, so I do the smart thing and park for free at a trolley stop and ride downtown for $2.50.
Except tomorrow, the hotel they chose is in fucking Coronado, there is no trolley stop and the buses are slow/unreliable at best. I am irrationally angry that I will have to pay $47 to park for 3 hours.
If you are a left-leaning organization, fucking pay attention to this shit when you choose where to have your events! argh! Now we’ll have hundreds of people driving when they could have had it downtown and have maybe 1/3 of those folks walking or taking transit.
Honestly, I’ll probably go down there a little early and drive around looking for a place to park on the street and walk a little bit further. It is just a cost that I do not want to pay.
What’s her experience?
I swear tipping more on Instacart just results in worse service. Tip 10% and the shopper will just figure everything out and leave your groceries at your front door but you tip 20% and the person sends 20 texts for replacement items and tries to enter your home and put your groceries away for you.
I have yet to use grocery or food delivery services, not even once (I mean, besides pizza, but that doesn’t count).
The day I can’t get off my ass and go get it myself is the day I make myself a PB&J and drink a glass of water because I might not have anything else in my house but I’ll be damned if I’m gonna pay extra for something I am perfectly capable of doing on my own.
Now get the fuck off my lawn!
We have ordered groceries for pickup at no extra charge (although we tip the person who brings them out to the car)
Do pet peeves count?
Like when you like a random post by someone you normally don’t engage with only to find out they coincidentally just liked one of your posts and now it looks like you only liked their post because they liked yours?
I HATE when that happens…
And here’s another one (pet peeve)
I order breakfast this morning and it comes with this huge chunck of Italian parsley on it. I get that it’s for decoration, but the plate was already too crowded! And on top of that, they put two grapes and a big strawberry on the plate. I’d normally appreciate that because I might eat them afterwards, but not WITH my eggs! Put that on a separate dish imo
Ok done for the day
My most dad trait is that I basically refuse to ever get food delivery or grocery delivery or any of those services
Mine is refusing to pay ATM fees. Well, really more like not letting my wife pay ATM fees. She just went to Vegas and paid like a $10 ATM fee at Aria.
I might be filing for divorce.
USAA is a Godsend for Drunken Vegas ATM Fees. All fees get refunded.
We use it all the time. For us, it’s not about being able or willing, but choosing to invest our time in other things than shopping. Using pickup and/or delivery services can literally save multiple hours per week depending on how frequently one shops and orders food from restaurants, etc. Additionally, while some people enjoy walking the aisles of a grocery store, locating the items they want, and waiting in line to check out - I am not one of those people.
I definitely understand. I’m the same way.
Here’s my hack. There are lots of cards that refund ATM fees. You should invest in one of those. Way cheaper than divorce, imo.
People still use ATMs?
Yes, but only to buy weed or play poker.
Make sure you buy fresh non international apples
For whatever reason once I could afford it I always had a $100 bill in my wallet, don’t ask. Recently I realized mine was pre-pandemic. So I had to get rid of it in the least obnoxious way I could think of and did it at a hotel.
I always pick up pizza because I refuse to pay delivery fees. I used a food delivery app for my first non-pandemic use because it was the most convenient way to buy dinner for the dealers at my poker room as a bonus tip for Christmas since I’m not allowed to just pick it up myself and hand it directly to them.
