Lots of people around us in Ohio are getting hammered with flu A. My sister got flu A and pneumonia at the same time.
Another insider says their hospital is now subtyping flu A cases, testing for H1N1 and H3 first—if negative, samples go straight to the state lab for H5 (bird flu) testing.
Why are they testing flu A patients for bird flu?

This isn’t a new pandemic but this guy is a huge ahole.
I’d call it a new pandemic if it’s been largely eliminated and then comes back weather it’s a mutant strain and mutant human brains the effect the reemergence.
ALMOST certainly not going to be a big deal. I had GPT do some research, and it came up with:
Actual plague infection: maybe ~50–65%
Not plague, precautionary response to a scary occupational coincidence: ~25–40%
Some other consequential lab-acquired pathogen: low single digits to ~10%
Ongoing uncontrolled pneumonic-plague outbreak: very low, probably <1% given the absence of secondary cases so far
“Some other consequential lab-acquired pathogen” is the category that I would be most concerned about. It seems that none of the quarantined contacts have gotten sick with anything yet though, so that seems very positive.
