Wouldn’t want anyone to protect the rim. Kidd felt he needed a small ball lineup for offensive spacing. So instead harden just killed them over and over.
The mavs fan base mostly dislikes Kidd and I am with them. He didn’t adjust.

By the way jason Kidd said he was fine with harden making six floaters because he only hit 30% of them during the regular season. Of course it doesn’t account for his lack of playing a center to defend them.
I just don’t like Kidd.
Kidd did tell Khris Middleton to miss a free throw up 3 with 1.4 seconds left because "We’ll take the bet of someone making it from the other side of the floor. … If we did make that free throw, our luck they get it in-bounds at half-court and we foul the 3-point shooter and it’s a four-point play. We’ll take our chances with them heaving a full-court shot.”
It’s the right play with under 5 seconds, no timeouts for the opposition and up 1 or 2.
So tell all 5 of your guys to just camp out under the opposing basket and not move.
Literally impossible to foul a 3-point shooter that way.
Good lord, why are some coaches so bad at stuff like this?

5 seconds is way too long. You can get all the way to the basket even from a standing rebound start in probably 3.5-4 seconds.
Maybe under 1.5 as that’s not enough time to go rebound, pass, shot.
The Gordon Hayward half court heave in the 2010 NCAA title game was this exact scenario. There were 3.6 seconds left on the clock.
Having a big rebound the ball and pass to a point guard costs about 3 seconds relative to a guard getting it on the inbounds close to half court.
