Heâs the G-league dude whoâs in the G-league because he canât and wonât dunk on people. And it might be too late because you have to get over that fear when youâre younger.
I gave this a lot of thought back when I watched him in HS, and again recently after this dunk contest: in HS he played like he was afraid of getting bridged and suffering a career-ending injury, which is a totally reasonable fear that got compounded by how good he was. He didnât need to attack the basket and finish like that. But at Georgetown it became real apparent, when there were so many spots that ended up like, ok, there are two 6â10 dudes standing there, and youâre 6â2⌠but you have a fucking 50 inch vertical just ram it in their fucking faces, thatâs not showboating or being flashy, itâs the literal best shot given the parameters.
Itâs a weird situation, because most dudes who can jump like that need to dunk on people, starting young, as a main part of their arsenal because they donât have other skills yet.
