National Basketball Association - 2022/23 Season (Part 1)

Totally agree, I laughed like Michael when I saw that trade come through.

Milwaukee really could have used Donte in the series against the Celtics. Just didn’t have enough athleticism. Too much Grayson Allen.

This Celtics team is very good but I don’t know if a team whose best player in the playoffs is a mercenary and whose “star” is stinking up the joint will be remembered as a great title team

We’ll see how it shakes out. They may well be remembered as a team that only won 2 games in the Finals because Steph shot 50% from three for the series and ripped the spine out of Lucky the Leprechaun like he’s in Mortal Kombat. I can see the blood on Steph’s smiling face.

You’re right about Tatum’s shooting and turnovers. Warriors defense is good, too. But defense is half the game, and Tatum’s playing great there. 9 more assists last night. My biggest problem with him is falling down after layups. He’s gotta get back, Warriors are getting great shots almost every time he does that (which is very often). Tatum’s probably got 3 or 4 more games to change how folks see his series.

Agree it’s been a great series. Steph having is best finals run ever, sucks they’re still struggling because Dray has been absolutely horrific for 2 games. Not sure whats going on with him but he’s not even playing good defense so its like playing 4v5 on offense and getting nothing on defense.

Wasn’t too worried about game 3, figured we were splitting the road games regardless because of how inconsistent Celtics are. But with Steph not being 100% I don’t think thats the case anymore. Series is most likely done.

Sucks it had to end that way, but Celtics are an incredible team.

Bob Myers looking kinda dumb right now. Everyone was saying they should trade their young assets for another good solid role player, and thats what this team is missing right now. They need another big wing or paint protector/rebounder. Instead they tried to ride the line of their older vets and a bunch of good rookies with potential but not experienced enough to play in the playoffs.

Always kinda thought it was dumb, even though towards the end when I figured it would still work out. You have one of the top 10 or top 15 players of all time, at the end of their prime. Cash in your assets for win now dude. It’s very unlikely you get back to a spot where you can be this good and have more opportunities to win chips.

Dray talked about it, and was saying how all the players would’ve voted for getting one more good solid role player.

Should probably just throw Moody or Kuminga out there anyways. Lack of size and athleticism is killing them. They might play bad as rookies but worth a gamble, with a 80 or 90% Curry you aren’t winning regardless unless you make big changes.

Both dirty plays but Horford was worse

That team is way better than these. They won almost 60 games in the regular season. They had 7 legit dudes. FVV, an all star this year was their 4th option. OG was their 5th.

At that time, people thought Kawhi might be the best player in the NBA. He was leaps and bounds better than current Tatum, probably decently better than this version of Curry once you add the defense.

I’ll believe Curry is dead when his body is in the cold, cold ground. Hoping the foot injury is minor. We deserve 4 more games of this.

Tatum hasn’t shot well but he’s played well in almost all other areas

That team wasn’t as good as your memory is telling you it was. For example: check OG’s playoff stats from that year, I’ll wait.

Bet you were surprised. Funny how memories do that, huh?

Toronto was a nice team, but they had 0 chance in the finals if GSW didn’t get blown up by injuries. Embiid was all kinds of messed up in the 2nd round, that kept them in it. They’re the weakest champ we’ve had in a long, long while. Either of these two teams this year would beat them badly.

Kawhi
Lowry
Siakam
Ibaka
Green

Fvv
Boucher
Gasol
Powell

Just 8.5 legit guys. No team had that this year. Phoenix was maybe close, but we know CP3 just doesn’t hold up all year.

I had remembered OG was not in the rotation for Milwaukee, but thought he came back at the end. My bad. Their guard/forward rotations were still better than Boston currently have. Just player for player they are better down the line.

(OG didn’t play in the playoffs that year - your memory is lying to you)

It’s wild how much you edited that post after learning OG didn’t play in the playoffs.

So - consider - if you don’t remember that team well enough to know OG sat all playoffs, should you trust your memory of the other players?

They have an earned ring. But to think they were better than either of these two teams is laughable. They were a very good team that hit an incredible stretch of injury luck - not having to deal with a healthy Embiid, Durant or Klay is legendary good fortune. They weren’t close to being the best team in the league that year. It happens! Celtics, Patriots, all my favorite teams have all had similar runs! Whichever team you root for, if they’ve won some rings, probably a similar deal for them. It’s OK to acknowledge that - the ring still counts! But let’s be realistic when we talk about how good the 18-19 Raptors were.

Porter must have thought the shot clock was down. There’s no way he wants that shot off such a tough catch. Amazing shot, barely moved the net. Literally.

That Raptors team was definitely the weakest title team of the past 10 years. They did at least have the best overall player of that entire playoffs though.

Agree with all this. Boston is the bigger, faster team.

Would reduced minutes be an issue for Draymond? He can coach on the bench.

It’s hard because we have almost no size, but he’s been so damn bad at everything for 2 games. I’d definitely like to see OPJ & Loon eat into some of his minutes. Maybe even Moody because yeah he’s a rookie but he’s been pretty composed.

If Dray isn’t going to give us elite defense/rebounding he’s a massive net negative on the floor.

The again he had a great game 2 so maybe he bounces back. People giving him shit for his podcast etc which is dumb as hell, but it does feel like his focus just isn’t there. It’s not like he’s having bad shooting nights, defense and passing shouldn’t have that much variance.

Before this series started I was joking around with people. Because all of our opponents in the playoffs beat us 3-1 in the regular season, this was our 3-1 revenge tour. Joked we’d go down 3-1 in the finals and win 3 straight. We’re right on track! lol

I think if we can steal game 4 this is still very much a series if Steph is 100%. We definitely looked like the better team at home, and we’re just a much better team there in general. Boston is very inconsistent, usually losing every other game last two series. So if it goes 2-2 and we have 2 home games were in good position, I favor us at that point.

Losing game 1 kinda put us in a super bad position. Not much you can do when a team shoots 50% from 3 on 45 attempts though. We played the percentages and they just hit the high end of variance there.

If Steph is 100% I give us like 30-40% chance, if he’s even just 90% we’re toast.
