Again, everyone needs to know that Stim’s friend presented her case, without opposition, to a judge and the judge, unusually, denied her request for a restraining order. Stim has yet to say why. (He probably went to bed after making his initial posts, as it was late in CA.) There’s more going on here.
Yeah the refusal seems extremely strange.
I know it doesn’t matter to the crisis stim but what is the foundation of the stalking? Jealousy? Love? Betrayal? How this person proceeds will depend a lot on why they feel triggered in the first place.
It’s just a friend? So maybe stim just doesn’t know the whole story.

Yeah, just take time off work and sue them. I’m sure you can afford to go to court with no money.
Protective orders don’t cost anything except the time you need to take off work, at least here. And I’d be shocked if there weren’t free attorneys from legal aid or the YWCA or something that would represent her in the hearing, not that she needs a lawyer.
What does she do for money in the interim to pay bills?
That’s what savings are for, duh.
I mean she would need to take off a few hours of work. She’s a nurse. Hopefully her job can reschedule her, or she has savings, or credit cards, or something. It sucks to have to take off work for court but I’m not sure what solution you think exists to that problem.

I had a stalker once. They suck. Never got to the point where I had to get a restraining order but it took a solid month of ignoring her for her to get the hint. LOL @ getting a gun though. WTF?

Yeah a gun is basically useless for this woman if the intent is to defend oneself. If this stalker plans on shooting her, there won’t be enough time to draw a gun in self-defense.

The stalker probably isn’t like a professional assassin or anything, so who knows how much time there’d be.
Doesn’t take a professional assassin to shoot somebody in the back.
Simplicitus makes a good point about the possibility that she is lying to you. I don’t know how well you know her, but I have a feeling if you start pressing on certain details, you might start hearing some different things.
No, but a professional assassin is going to have a much better chance of getting into a position to shoot somebody in the back without being detected than a crazy stalker with no assassin skills.

The advice was to disappear and give work emergency notice and if they fire you just sue them.
Obviously she should have a credit card with she can just put the hotel rooms on.
These are obviously options for privileged people with resources.
Maybe this person has these resources but based on what I read she doesn’t.
I agree it sounds like there’s more to this story.

Ok I think wires got crossed here. I agree it’s a crazy recommendation to just take a month off of work and move away. I thought you were just talking about getting the protective order, which isn’t a huge financial burden for anyone with a minimal amount of financial security.
