Meh, nowhere close. One movie is pretty good, the other is decent, neither sniffs full-on greatness. It’s maybe the most lukewarm take in the history of internet posting.

Greenbook is in the running for worst ever best picture winner and EEAAO is very good.

Solid, but $80 million domestic opening isn’t crazy. Hopefully it has legs
It’s the second biggest ever for non-franchise only $2m behind the record holder Oppenheimer.

I don’t think that can be right. Barbie had a $160 million opening. I don’t think that’s a franchise (yet).
And if you don’t like Barbie, opening for Minecraft movie was around the same size.
Not sure how they define all that but that “record” is being widely reported. Either way, it’s a huge opening for a film like it which is good for its overall box office chances.
Part of me wishes I could quickly understand what each headline about box-office openings means, and a larger part of me is kind of relieved that I can’t. Every number means a different thing to movies of different budgets, and then the bean-counters will generally jump in with (frequently dishonest) counter-narratives about how a good opening wasn’t really a good opening, etc., and at some point I just have to get off the ride and take comfort in the fact that I’m not worrying about another thing that I can’t control.

Agreed. Normally I don’t care about box office but I’m overly emotionally invested in this film. 
Barbie was the first live action movie in a multimedia franchise.
Project Hail Mary had a $200 million budget, which isn’t crazy with how it’s performing so far.
I found this list of movies with the highest budgets interesting. MCU budgets really got out of hand in phase 4.
I did a rewatch of both EEAAO and Banshees recently, and though I had them flipped come oscar time that year, Banshees gets better for me every watch. I think it would have been a very deserving BP winner
It’s my favorite 2022 movie at this point, Banshees. Nope is a pretty close second though.

I might put Aliens ahead of wall-e but is it “really” a “space” movie? 90% of it is on the surface.
