You really should watch Halloween (2018). Itâs fantastic and provides a very satisfying conclusion. Itâs free on Tubi! No excuse not to at least try it for thirty minutes and see if you want to continue.
What about Halloween III? Itâs not even related to the other movies.
I like it also, but LKJ and Tarantino are right. Making MM the brother of Laurie Strode was another example of studios fucking shit up when they shouldnât touch it. And then they killed the mother fucker at the end along with Loomis, until they magically came back for part 4 which, is also a really good slasher flick. Unfortunately, you kind of just have to go with it to enjoy it, and purists like LKJ simply wonât have that. I respect it.
This is definitely the other part. You canât just fully carry out the deaths of Myers and Loomis and then no-sell it later out of sheer contempt for your viewers.
But the sister thing was abhorrent. Disgusting bit of writing. Shyamalan probably blushed at that bullshit.

This one I could theoretically watch, honestly. Because it doesnât wink at Myers or Loomis still being alive, to my understanding. At that point they were respecting their own canon. Then the sister nonsense just makes Halloween II its own failed movie, but one that doesnât impact this follow-up.
However, it gets graded badly by the consensus, so I probably wonât bother on that basis. But itâs true that the failures of Part II wouldnât disqualify this one.
Iâm pretty sure the conclusion already happened many years prior. Myers is 100% stone-cold dead. What could conclude the Myers story more than that did?

Meh. Halloween 2018 is actually quite good. Unfortunately the 2 sequels get worse as it goes on.

Splitsville (2025)
Of this uptick in studio comedies hitting theaters this year - all pretty much falling into the ânothing amazing, but a good timeâ category - I think this might be my favorite so far? At least by a small margin.
Good screwball energy, and certainly better than the idiotic movie that Adria Arjona was in last year.

I watched the 1936 entry in your list : Mizoguchiâs Osaka elegy
(I had watchlisted it on my public libraries streaming service ages ago and finally got around to it)
Itâs very good ! Surprisingly modern and feminist for such an old movie.
Wouldnât put it at high priority unless youâve already watched all the 50s Mizoguchi though (goat run), or youâre especially looking for a very short (70 mins) movie which tbh is often my case.
Iâve only seen 1/3 of your list and thereâs a lot in there that Iâd want to watch as wellâŚalthough when it gets to present years it starts to become questionable lol (plz consider replacing Wreck-it Ralph by Holy motors)

Nice; within the past year, I saw Mizoguchiâs Sisters of the Gion from the same year and it worked for me. Didnât realize until reading about the movie afterward that the clear standout actress from it went on to be the Lady Macbeth stand-in in Throne of Blood years later, but that checked out because I remember her being pretty electric in that role too. Itâs definitely a feminist movie as well; seemed kind of clear that Mizoguchi had a certain focus in his projects of that time. Iâm under the impression that Osaka Elegy is in conversation with Sisters of the Gion, that he maybe did a thematic trilogy of movies that all had a similar focus.
I plead guilty to the later selections on my list being a bit harder to pin down. If it was stuff from my lifetime then itâs inherently something I never took the time for when I could have, so itâs going to tend to be weaker than the older movies.
I also saw Sisters of Gion recently and yes itâs very similar. The actress was also in Yojimbo (decades later) as the conniving wife (saw this one for the first time last week, although I wouldnât have recognized her without looking it upâŚ).
Not sure how much the fact that Iâm rating these lower than the later Mizoguchiâs has to do with the low quality of the prints that I sawâŚIâm not used to watching anything in sd these days
Ha. I just saw Yojimbo for the first time recently, and again utterly failed to identify her across the three movies. Well, sheâs certainly in some good shit.
