Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 2)

I know gun foo!

The cars keep blowing up before the crashes though…

Despite my love of Hong Kong/Chinese crime drama, I just could never get into John Woo.

Yeah, I mean he’s not just a football agent. The kid who makes him feel bad about himself at the start of the movie is the son of a hockey player who he represents. He’s trying to retain an Olympic gymnast after he gets fired. I admittedly don’t get how the business side all works from an agent’s standpoint, but with sports always moving in and out of season I would think that client recruitment is a year-round thing.

I love the movie. It’s just a thing that occurred to me on most recent viewing and caused me to start actively looking for hints that he’s doing anything at all besides Rod Tidwell business.

Current season Black Mirror, Episode 2 most unrealistic part:

No way she is able to get the cops gun and kill the lady that quickly. Cops’ holsters are made with safety features to prevent someone else from easily grabbing the gun. I drew and “fired” a gun on screen as an extra, so I’m an expert.

Overall, the episode was pretty good. Thought it sped to a conclusion too quickly, though. Maybe one of the weaker episodes of the series, but that’s a pretty nice floor.

goddammit

Damn, this is a good point.

Idk they kinda established that he was perceived as toxic to sports talent early on

Jeopardy question I missed

As of 2025, this director has made just four films, three is which have been nominated for best picture.

Use spoilers for guesses.

I missed this one, too.

He was toxic to sports management more than the talent, the “take less do more” strategy doesn’t really allow for big management companies. I didn’t get that the athletes didn’t care for that, just that he didn’t have a chance to talk to many of them because of Cuba’s mouth.

Has to be Greta, right?

Potential Jeopardy answer:

Martin McDonagh? I need to go look if In Bruges was nominated.

Nope, I was wrong. Close though. Banshees and Three Billboards with best picture. In Bruges nominated for Original Screenplay.

Barry Jenkins?

I feel better I’m not the only one getting this wrong. I felt like I lost my film nerd card. Haha.

So far just one person has gotten it right.

would have said like eyebooger (and on looking it up it appears to be right)

but probably easier to guess from your post than seeing it on TV since you being the forum’s most outspoken fan of Barbie (and maybe her other movies as well ?) my mind went there immediately…

(missed the fact that you said you didn’t get the answer…would have made it more difficult if I’d seen that)

Affleck is my best guess

Dang very close but wrong. I feel good about my guess.

Gerwig. Got it right away when watching the game

More of an educated guess than certain knowledge.
