Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 2)

That’s quite the statement.

Oh, you didn’t mean that kind of movie. Sorry.

What can I say? The girls do it better.

In the commentary, they say the true way to enjoy Ocean’s 12 is to watch it over and over.

Lol

I actually enjoy Oceans 12. That bit with Bruce Willis is hilarious.

It’s been too long for me to remember anything about the movie lol. I probably had to watch it 2 or 3 times when doing the work for it. I was not going to watch it over and over lol.

Johnny Depp for me

Ryan Reynolds sends my lawnmower into orbit, but in fairness that’s partially everyone else’s fault for having garbage taste and enabling his career. I don’t know much about the guy personally.

Alec Baldwin has always seemed like an incorrigible prick.

I was once a big fan of The Rock as a wrestler, but now that he’s just a ChatGPT bot that has fully taken over a human body, he’s one of the more unlikable ones out there. Remember, you should go to the theater and sing along, especially if you love music.

This is me not bothering to count nobodies like Rob Schneider, except that I guess I just mentioned him.

Okay, so I’ve watched and loved Alien and Aliens, and have simply believed the reviews and abstained from the franchise since then. Alien: Romulus reviews are consistently solid in a way that makes me believe them, but: is it going to noticeably harm my experience if I just jump ahead to that without having seen what’s in between? Keeping in mind that I’m not really entertaining the “just make yourself experience the depths of the franchise, it will build character” option.

Trying to map out what’s worth seeing and what I can manage to see this month in terms of 2024 releases.

My one line review was “chatgpt, write me an alien 1 sequel starring Great Value daisy ridley” but now that I think about it more its more like “chatgpt, write me an alien movie that 10 years from now people on reddit will revere like the way they revere rogue one, for some reason, right now”.

Naw. Please proceed. This actually takes place earlier in the timeline than the other sequels, so one could say your experience will be heightened by watching this one first.

Romulus’ plot is directly tied to the first movie. It takes place after Alien but before Aliens.

It’s not a bad movie however it has one terribly misguided casting choice (you’ll know it when you see it). It also falls victim to fan service which is a disservice to Cailee Spaeny’s Rain as it prevents her from becoming anything other than a Ripley clone. I like Fede Alvarez but I wish he would have held off on the nostalgia a bit.

Still, I liked the movie and appreciated the last third where everything goes wack-a-doodle.

Sterling Hayden, John Wayne, or Ronald Reagan maybe.

It’s a real cruelty that I’ve begun to enjoy John Wayne as an on-screen performer as I continue to explore film history. No real question that he was a racist asshole.
