Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 2)

I’m hopeful that’ll be a good one too. Eastwood knows how to make good movies. I wish his screenwriter Abrams had a bigger resume, but everyone gets their start somewhere.

@RiskyFlush As long as you’re grinding Pluto, this is on there too. I give it a full 4.5/5.

Just checked out the premise. Sounds like my kind of movie.

So finally watched it from start to finish. Still made me tear up a little even knowing 100% what was coming. One thing I didn’t anticipate was realizing the voice of the villain was Shooter McGavin. Fucker really eats pieces of shit for breakfast.

The grace scene made me want to see the movie.

The woke mob has cancelled Jessica Rabitt’s titties!

The only solution is a trench coat!

Almost through with all the Bonds. Only one left(not counting the one with Connery and Basinger). I havent watched the Craig movies outside their cinema releases but they were a lot of fun so far. I remember I wasnt to happy that Craig replaced Brosnan at the time. I also feared that I couldnt endure the Brosnan movies anymore but I liked Golden Eye and Tomorrow never dies a lot aside from the fact that his 4 movies were a little over the top with the action. One of my favourite Bonds is probably Octopussy for some reason. Kinda have a weak spot for strong women. The one thing that is really cringe with the Moore-Bonds nowadays that he was probably the one forcing the most kisses on his female counterparts. Connery clapped butts, Moore forced kisses. Funny thing is I bought the DVD of “Die another day” decades ago which is probably one of the weakest Bonds. Probably because of Rosamund Pike.
Its weird that I had no problem watching those films while I have a lot of motivational issues watching some of the recent movies that came out. Probably because I know what I get from the Bonds.

Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

This was the highest rated movie in the IMDB 250 (at #40) that I hadn’t seen. It’s a movie about orphans starving to death that still manages to be beautiful at times. It’s a war movie that’s about the home front instead of the front lines. It’s a social movie that belongs in the same conversation as Bicycle Thieves. It’s an animated movie that makes full use of the medium.

5/5

Next one on the IMDB list that I haven’t seen is another Japanese film: Harakiri.

Haven’t seen Grave of the Fireflies myself - certainly have been intending to - but Harakiri is basically perfect. Definitely encourage you getting to that one as soon as possible.

I’ve known about Grave of the Fireflies for 20+ years, but haven’t seen it because all I hear about it is how emotionally devastating it is. It’s usually that and Dear Zachary that are mentioned together.

I’m determined to see it some time before I die. Maybe… next year. Or the next. Or the next.

Feel exactly the same way. Honestly don’t know if I’ll ever watch it.

It helps to watch something super happy right before, for balance. I’d recommend Bridge to Terabithia.

I watched it with my kids. During one of the firebombing scenes my son asked me if that would ever happen to our building.

Predestination is a great time paradox movie, but it might also be my favorite trans/intersex movie. Young Sarah Snook, good performance from Ethan Hawke, some fun cameos.

A temporal agent embarks on a final time-traveling assignment to prevent an elusive criminal from launching an attack that kills thousands of people.

My only complaint, as usual, is that the trans/intersex character is played by a cisgender person. This movie is ten years old, so I’d like to think that today it would be made with a person from the represented communities.

4/5 bags. 5 if not for the casting.

It’s on Pluto and Netflix.

I also saw Buffaloed, which seems like a forgettable movie, because I can’t remember anything about it.

Fuck this move so hard. If destroyed me for weeks.

Yep felt this way about Seven Samurai as well.

But also quoting this to say Harakiri was also an immediate 10/10 movie for me. I respect Seven Samurai for what it is, but Harakiri is my definitive black and white samurai movie.
