I will say that it distresses me that Clueless lacks an “Emma looks really bad after she treats someone of a lower social station like shit” moment since I think those are pretty essential to the Emma story.
Love that movie anyway though.

Jeez Louise no, Manhattan is not the one. There’s like 30 seconds of Manhattan in the movie and LKJ is right that the earlier entries get the most recognition for being somewhat decent.
Yes fine. I think the one with the girl who has telekinesis is legit good.
Yeah i like that one too.
This movie was fire. Highly recommend. The opening scene starts with an lol bang. Like a far more humorous episode of Black Mirror until the really fucked up stuff starts happening.
I was looking at this one and now I’m definitely checking it out tonight. Happy to hear you folks are enjoying it.
My wife is out of town for 6 days (longest we’ve been apart in our 20 years of marriage) so I’m going to catch up on a bunch of movies. Normally I’m lucky if I can squeeze in 2 or 3 a week.
Random thoughts…
Jason X is a blast
The first Nightmare is a hella good horror movie for the slasher era. I have fond memories of watching that one on VHS over and over with my friends so there is a heavy nostalgic factor. Dream Warriors is good as well but we are now in the quippy Freddy era.
The Flash wasn’t good but that could be superhero fatigue on my part.
Can The Substance get to streaming asap please?
I can’t bring myself to watch the Terrifier movies. Am I going soft? I have seen Brain Dead (aka Dead Alive) more than once in my youth.
Feel like lots of people can’t watch The Terrifier movies, I’m shocked the latest one did so well at the box office. They are definitely way above just about anything else I’ve seen when it comes to gore and sadistic killings.
You’re afraid you’re going soft but you desperately want to see The Substance? Boy are you in for it.
I saw Megalopolis. It had no outtakes.
All I would probably say about this movie would come out as quips.
Not sure why I’m reluctant to watch the Terrifier movies considering I don’t have a problem with body horror. I’ve seen everything Cronenberg minus a few post-Eastern Promises and his son, Brandon, is continuing the family business. I highly recommend his film with Andrea Riseborough, Posessor.
I’ve heard the Terrifier movies described as mean spirited. Maybe that’s my block. If it’s super gory but silly (like Brain Dead) I’m good. If it’s super gory but engaging I’m good as well (which is what I hope I’ll find in The Substance). Terrifier might just be too mean for me and my now older delicate sensibilities, lol.
Wait, youre gonna watch The Substance but are balking at Terrifier?
Fwiw, while Art and pretty much the entire vibe of T1 is mean spirited, the sequel actually puts forth both a pretty compelling story and a very compelling hero (which the first absolutely does not have)
Yup. I try and explain it a bit in the post above yours. I’m not sure if that’s the right answer but it’s the only way I can rationalize it. I’m definitely not someone who balks at gore and I have loved horror films since I was a kid.
If you dont balk at gore and are a horror fan, id put a reccomendation on T2 and say skip T1. The lead in T2 has a very 80s final girl vibe to her with modern day sensibilities and there are some very fun side characters (Hi, Mom!)
I understand they bring in the Final Girl in the second film and she returns in the third.
Ok, I am considering giving T2 a shot. Nearly two and a half hours!?! Holy shit. I thought it would be a tight little 90 minute flick.
My sister was in one of those. She showed me a frame of her dancing next to a main character in some set up club scene and said that would be all from the movie she’d be able to show me.
It kind of plays like one. There arent any unneccesary scenes, but nearly all scenes go on at least a minute too long. Its very odd, but even with the overlong scenes, it still feels a lot closer to 90 min than 150 min. Word on the street is that they fixed the editing a bit in 3, even though its still just over 2 hours.
Sounds like the 2nd
I think she got to be in the movie because she donated to its Kickstarter or whatever it was doing to raise money.
