Oh man I’ll bet. I think those references are why they’re more than just fun movies. They make most excellent literary and historical references.
I always thought Miller wrote about fascism the way Moore and Verhoeven did fascism but there is some strong recent evidence to the contrary. It’s still the way I choose to think and reflect on The Dark Knight Rises, Returns, etc. regardless of whatever his actual intentions were. I understand conservative fear and the uselessness of vigilantism specifically because of Miller’s work.

Studios have just figured out there are comics about stuff other than dudes in tights so you can expect decades more of this stuff. The tangential superhero stuff we’re seeing on streaming (The Tick, Boys) showing how normal people react to superheroes is going to get squeezed for all its worth, too.
