Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

I’m not sure how much you can improve the experience of basically being in a parking lot.

I would love to see Tenet in 2D IMAX. But just release it VOD and I’ll pay the $20. No chance I’m going to a theater.

Quality of projection and audio? Those would mean a lot to me. Did you dial into a radio station in 1983? Or was it like a speaker next to your window?

Few movies have been as hotly debated, quantified and stressed as Christopher Nolan ’s Tenet , a movie that became a flashpoint before anybody ever saw it even knew what it was about (time travel, er, inversion ?)

lmao

All the drive ins near me use your car’s FM radio for audio. It must sound like piss.

I remember both the radio and the crappy thing you hung on your window. But the important thing is… you’re in a parking lot. You are outside. You are surrounded by other people in their cars. It’s noisy. There are distractions. There is light bleed from everywhere. The screen is hundreds of feet away and on the other side of your windshield.

While my memories are old, I have to assume the reason drive-ins almost went completely extinct is because it’s a shitty way to see a movie.

I think the last movies I saw at drive ins were Congo (based on a Michael Crichton book) and Godzilla (starring Matthew Broderick)

Maybe they also play good movies

I have never been to a drive in. There have been a ton of pop-up drive-ins in LA since the pandemic started and I am not remotely motivated to go to any of them.

Just watched contagion. Is unreal how well it predicted COVID. creepy.

My body is ready for The Batman.

I like how in every Batman movie, someone doesn’t know who he is. There’s always: “Who are you?” or “Nice costume, freak.” or “What, is the circus in town?”

If it ain’t perpetuating debilitating PTSD for the crime-fighting good, don’t fix it.

While it was incredibly dumb in the Batfleck movie when he was 50 and supposedly had been Batman for like 20 years, Pattinson still looks like 27.

Batman looks great, meh on rest of DC

I sure am glad they’ve thrown caution to the wind and decide push the envelope making yet another Batman movie.

Honestly, I love DC superheroes but DC movies are hot garbage. Even still I am hyped for Black Adam. I have never not been entertained when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been on the screen. Name a movie with Dwayne Johnson where you didn’t have at least a little bit of fun, just try.

Well, yes and no. A lot of people have been predicting this kind of thing happening for a long time. Actually, Contagion was based on the real-life events of the SARS outbreak in China.

I’ve talked about this before in the COVID thread, but my mom used to work in pathology and when the shit hit the fan I sent her a DVD of Contagion. She thought it was pretty great, she had one or two very nitpicky complaints about it. As I understand it, the producers of Contagion did a whole lot of expert consulting when they made the script.

I’ve got Dark Knight as easy top superhero movie of all time. Dark Knight Rises and Batman Begins as possible top 10 superhero movies. Maybe Wonder Woman and original Batman, crack the top 25. But the rest is Marvel.
