Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

Lynch is so polarizing. He’s like idk Tim & Eric? Gilbert Gottfried? Eric Andre. Possibly Wes Anderson. You either love them, or you hate them. You can’t always explain why, it just is. You may get it, you may not. It’s just a feeling.

My understanding is that Lynch and/or the producers originally intended it to be the length(8-10 hours) of a show like True Detective.

They made the pilot, but decided not to fully complete, which is why the last hour of Mulholland Drive feels like it does.

It’s definitely a singular taste. I consider it to be one of the only Lynch films worth watching. I love a movie that is visceral and immersive without requiring any explanation of what the hell the plot is, and wow did I love it even more once I understood the rules that were staring every confused audience member in the face. The plot is excellent, even if opaque. But then I am also a huge mystery/thriller fan.

Beyond that, the performances are terrific, the music is haunting, and I have returned to this scene over and over and over.

No regerts. Surrealism is a gimmick for people who have nothing to say.

Finally saw Parasite.

I think the “problem” for me is that with all the accolades, I was expecting it to be a near GOAT level movie.

I’d say it was only good.

I really want to see this but the method I’ve adopted for watching movies makes it difficult, so I’m worried I may never get around to it.

I sit at my computer and either post here, surf the net or play games while the movie plays. I’ll invariably miss something important, so I rewind a lot. But with subtitles ldo you have to actually watch the freakin thing the whole time. It’ll require EFFORT

I’ve heard something like that too. Explains the loose ends otoh it’s so cliche, the first half is only any good if the second half is how it is. Would be tough to make that work without a captive audience. I’m not a huge lynch fan but this is my favorite of his.

This post has earned 100 fleebs.

Anyone who earns 1k fleebs will be granted temporary immunity on all testimony against zikzak.

That’s just a wasted movie.

Lol Zikzak is wrong obv but I can’t judge too harshly here, my wife watched it 3 times before she figured out she didn’t like it.

It will take her approximately 3 more times for her to figure out she DOES like it. Please help her see this through to the end :eyes:

Mulholland is the only Lynch work I’ve ever seen. I saw it in the theater and enjoyed it, especially the two female leads. My GF at the time hated it because she had Twin Peaks expectations.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Just watched it a couple days ago. Curious about others opinions on this.

I feel it will probably end up at the bottom of my Tarantino movie rankings(which still means it was above average and worth watching). Doesn’t seem to have rewatchability though.

The best scenes, imo, were the ones with Leo & the girl actress, and Leo & Timothy Olyphant. But those scenes aren’t as good as the top 10 scenes from Pulp Fiction or Basterds.

Agree. I love Tarantino but didn’t get the love for this one. Has some amazing parts (monologue and ranch) but overall it didn’t work for me. I really didn’t like the end either.

Nah I watch the movie it just takes like five hours

Agree Once Upon… is Tarantinos worst, taking over from Death Proof. Indulgent mess. The ranch scene was the only bit that really felt like a good Tarantino movie. It’s another piece of evidence in my contention that making movies about Hollywood should be a criminal offence. (Mulholland Drive too).
